AMA Pro Flat Track Comes Back to Pomona

Thursday, September 17, 2009
On Saturday, October 24th, the AMA Pro Flat Track Grand National Championship returns to the super fast 5/8-mile track at the Pomona Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., for the first time in a decade. The AMA Pro motorcycle races will be co-sanctioned with Gene Romero's West Coast Flat Track Series (WCFTS) and will be run under current AMA Pro Flat Track rules and regulations.

Chris Carr and the AMA Pro Flat Track season finale returns to Pomona after a 10-year absence.

Now is your chance to welcome the AMA Pro Grand National Championship back to California and join seven-time Grand National Champion Chris Carr, three-time Grand National Champion Kenny Coolbeth, current Grand National Championship points leader Jared Mees and over 150 riders from across the country for the last race of the 2009 season.

"What a great opportunity for AMA Pro Flat Track to return to southern California," says Mike Kidd, Director of AMA Pro Flat Track, 1981 AMA Pro Grand National Champion and AMA Hall of Famer. "The riders will be putting it all on the line at Pomona. We have a record six riders going into the final race of the season with a mathematical shot at the title."

The races are part of the third annual California Bike Week and 26th Annual Love Ride, which attracts over 20,000 motorcyclists from across the country. The Fairplex will have plenty to do for three big days with motorcycle racing, demo rides, concerts, a vendor village and stunt shows. The event is set for October 22 - 24, with racing beginning at 6:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, October 24th.

"As you can imagine, there were numerous logistical issues to overcome in order to make this Hybrid National possible," says Gene Romero, founder of WCFTS, 1970 AMA Pro Grand National Champion and AMA Hall of Famer. "Through our combined efforts, Pomona will be an exciting, fast-paced evening of racing to be enjoyed by fans and riders alike."

There are a limited number of reserved seats still available at $40.00. General Admission tickets are also available at all Ticketmaster outlets for $30.00; and tickets for children 12 and under are just $10.00. Tickets are available online at www.LoveRide.comwww.Ticketmaster.com and at participating Southern California Harley-Davidson dealers. Man it's great to see the momentum Flat Track racing is gaining lately, holding these events in conjunction with other events is key...just like the Indy Mile! And to have two legends directing the event just makes it better IMO.
