After only nine rounds, including eight first place finishes and one second, Kacy Martinez locked in the WXC GNCC Championship this weekend at the 7th annual AMSOIL Snowshoe GNCC in West Virginia.
The 13-round series now goes on summer break and returns in September at Unadilla, NY, which gives Martinez a chance to relax after a grueling schedule that included a rigorous training program, numerous flights across the country, an EnduroCross win in Las Vegas and an X Games Gold medal. All in all, Martinez is having a banner year and clinching the GNCC title at Snowshoe was just icing on the cake.
"Coming into this race I was expecting pretty bad track conditions as it rained a lot coming up to the race. This was only my second time to race Snowshoe, and back in 2007 I had a really tough time. I love this race though cause it's very unique and starting on the asphalt is very different. I got a good start and went into the woods in first place! Right away I was pretty surprised by the track conditions, it wasn't as slippery as I thought it was going to be. The course workers laid out an awesome, fun track. There's a very long mud bog called Howard's Hole and that was probably the toughest part of the track. I got through there pretty well and was able to extend my lead and take the win. Wrapping up the championship right before the summer break made this win just that much better! Thank you to everyone who supports me to be able to do what I love."
Andrew DeLong had his best race of the season at Snowshoe, finishing 3rd overall in the talent-packed XC1 Pro class. "Snowshoe can be a brutal course so I decided early to pace myself and ride the smartest race I could - sometimes it's all about survival and steady performance. My Husqvarna 300 ran perfect all day and a 3rd place finish here is a solid result."
Honorable mention goes out to Motorcycle Superstore
