Tyler Bowers Hooks Friday Night Win in Reno

Saturday, February 19, 2011
The first night of action from the Reno round of the 2011 AMA Arenacross Series continued the recent dominance of Babbitt’s Monster Energy/TiLUBE Kawasaki presented by Maxxis rider Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky. The longest running event in arenacross history welcomed a solid crowd as Bowers raced to his fourth win of the season. In the Arenacross Lites class, Kawasaki rider Tiger Lacey, of Spring Creek, Nev., relied on his veteran experience to steal an impressive victory in a guest appearance.

In recent weeks, Bowers has gradually asserted himself as the rider to beat in the Arenacross class. After a tough road back from a broken leg suffered in the closing stages of the 2010 season, he is coming into top form, working his way into the championship lead last weekend and extending his advantage tonight.

As the gates dropped on the 25-lap main event, Bowers got the start he needed and assumed the top spot. From there, it was all about consistency and if any rider has proven to excel in that area in 2011, it’s Bowers. He cruised to the win with TUF Honda riders Cole Seely, of Emmett, Idaho, and Jeff Gibson, of Blacklick, Ohio, in tow on the podium.

As the Arenacross Lites Western Regional Championship returned to action in Reno, local rider Lacey took advantage of his familiarity with the Reno layout. Thanks to a strong start, Lacey was able to work his way into the lead and fended of the challenges of full-time series competitor Patrick Massie, of Washington Court, Ohio, and his Foremost Insurance/Spinechilllers/HondaofFairfield.com machine, as well as 1-Up Motorsports Kawasaki’s Joel Fittro, of Elmira, Calif.

Western Regional points leader Chad Cook, of Oklahoma City, Okla., experienced a rough night, finishing 10th.

AMA Arenacross Series action from Reno continues tomorrow night from the Livestock & Events Center beginning at 7 p.m. PT.
