Hollister made for hot, hard WORCS racing, which was just what the front-runners needed to flesh out their skills.
Round 4 of the 2009 WORCS racing series came to Hollister OHV Park for one of the most physically grueling sessions of the season. The brutally bumpy, tight-trailed course tested the front-runners' stamina as the temperatures rose above 90 degrees under the California sun. JCR/Honda's Timmy Weigand shot out to an early lead against the stacked gate of 30 Pro class competitors. He held the lead for more than an hour, but Kawasaki’s Ricky Dietrich proved his stamina by passing the Honda rider and taking the win by just 17 seconds, in what was a two hour race.
It was a hard loss for Weigand who had raced well all day. He remarked, “I really wanted to win this one for Johnny (Campbell). He has put so much in and I want to give him 100% every time I race. I was telling myself "keep pushing you can win this." I'm happy to be on the podium and we're going after the Championship.”
In the Pro 2 class Jonathan Davis managed to narrow the gap with the Kawasaki point-leading duo of Ryan Abbatoye and Corey Floyd. Floyd finished a minute behind Davis, followed by Abbatoye to round out the podium.
Recently signed KTM rider Sarah Whitmore won the Women Pro contest a mere 7 seconds in front of Kacy Martinez. She is now the points leader with five more than Penni Cyrus and Kacy Martinez.
