Nathan Woods Dies in WORCS Practice Crash

Nathan Woods ran as high as sixth-place on his Husaberg but fell to 13th by the end of the race.

Nathan Woods died today from injuries sustained in a practice crash at Honolulu Hills Raceway in Taft, California where he was preparing for the opening round of the World Off-Road Championship Series this weekend. Woods was set to compete in the 2011 WORCS Pro 1 series with the Carbon Raptor Stillwell Performance racing team aboard the #54 KTM. Reports indicate that he was airlifted to a hospital and pronounced dead after crashing on the motocross portion of the track.

Woods has been riding professionally since the mid-'90s and has enjoyed two wheels since the age of seven. The 32-year-old from Paso Robles, CA racked up two WORCS championships (2004-05) and had amassed the most wins in series history in addition to a gold medal at the ISDE and competing regularly at EnduroCross. His career saw him ride for factory Kawasaki, Suzuki and Husaberg as well as Zip-Ty Racing Yamaha before signing his KTM contract this year. Nathan leaves behind his wife, Amanda, and sons, Nate and Braxton.

“Today off-road racing lost one of the greatest off-road champions ever to throw a leg over a dirtbike,” said the WORCS website. “He will be missed, our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Woods, his two sons, Little Nate and Braxton, and the entire Woods family. God speed #54.”

I was looking through an old photo album today and found a ticket stub from the 1999 paso fair that Nathan signed. I looked up to him almost as much as i did my brother. Gods Speed Nathan.

Hello my name is Gretchen Lopez my son Trey LOpez has been racing for the last two yrs. we live in Lake HAvasu City,az.So we are very new to SUpercross. But my son got the privilage to spend some time with the Woods Family and the Boys,in Washington 2010 Worsc . He was really upset on friday when he heard that Nathan got hurt @practice Then heard the sad news at the riders meeting friday nite.Trey sat inthe car for 1hr and just cried for the boys and said he knows how they it feels to have something taken from you so fast. trey did say that Nathan was awsome guy. Trey looked up to him.We are is very Sad for the family ... Trey lost his father 4yrs ago in a car accident,he knows how the boys are feeling and he hurts for them. But wants them to know "Be strong and always remember There Daddy is watching over them" If there is anything we can do to help, please feel free to to contact me... I knew Nathan many years ago through his mom and though we didn't keep in touch I often thought of him. He is a very special person and I send my condolences to his family.

We wish the Woods family all the love and support from family and friends to survive this sad moment! I'm proud to know Nathan from the 6 day's, we staid in the same hotel during the Greece 6 days and will really miss him and his friendly personality, all the sympathy for his wive and sons and family

Got to hang out with Nathen at the oregon ,and Montana Nationals this year.A great guy ,not to good to talk to any racer or fan.willing to help me or any one out even if he dident know you.he gave me some realy great tip I will never forget coming from him.RIP Nate you are greatly missed and never forgoten GODSPEED#54

Nathan worked with me at The Power House M/C Shop in Paso Robles,Ca. He was a very focused person. Nathen was racing and working on pro sponsership yet very attentive to Amanda. I thought at the time that it was unusual for a racer to be so involved with his girl at the same time he was traveling and racing.
Then I got to know Amanda at her dads pharmacy. I have a handicaped son that requires alot of meds and Amanda was always there to help.
Nathan and Amanda were a match. They married and started a family, etc. The rest is history. Amanda, I wish that I was there to give you a hug. Nathan is a great guy and will be sorley missed by my family and many others.

I am so sorry to hear about Nathan, Before he went professional I had tha opportunity to meat and take pictures of him and his friend. What a treat. In the following years, at the beach races, he was always open and friendly with everyone. He always remembered everyone. I remember him coming around a corner and giving me the thumbs up. He is a true professional and such a great rider. He was a great ambassador of the Central Coast. Such a smooth rider. So many memories, however my all time favorite was after the 2007 Beach Race when he took a group photo with Jerome Law, Aaron Baker and Ricky James - NAthan Took the Trophy and the picture - That was my favorite all time picture of the beach races. This is so sad. Take care Nathan! You will be missed!
