They say America is where the top motocross talent comes to race. That’s definitely the case now with Glen Helen Raceway and the FIM inking a five-year deal that will have the World Motocross Championship Series headed to California for one of its points-paying rounds.

“I am very excited and enthusiastic to have this world class event at Glen Helen Raceway,” said Glen Helen’s Bud Feldkamp in a press release. “It has been a life-long dream of mine and the staff to have this extraordinary World Championship event at Glen Helen. This will give motocross fans across the US an opportunity to see our top American riders compete against MX champions from around the world on US soil.”

The Grand prix of the United States of America is slated for May 30. Glen Helen will be Round 6 of the 15-race Grand Prix series. The news comes on the heels of an announcement regarding contractual conflicts between Glen Helen and MX Sports, the organizer of the AMA Motocross Championship. Originally, the American series was slated to race on that date, but was postponed until September 11, leaving a hole between Round 1 at Hangtown and Round 2 in Texas. Racers, however, will not have a week to rest and enjoy Memorial Day now that the GPs are coming to town.

Youthstream President, Giuseppe Luongo, expressed his pleasure at the opportunity to bring World MX to the US. “Today is a fantastic day for the whole Motocross world,” he said. “I want to really thank Mr. Bud Feldkamp for his trust and enthusiasm towards us so that the FIM Motocross can return to this great venue in the USA. Being near the industry’s and teams’ bases the location of the Glen Helen Raceway couldn’t be better. We are sure that together we will build a fantastic and stable event for those who come to the event and for those who will follow it via internet and television.

“Naturally all the top World Championship MX1 and MX2 riders will be participating and all the top American riders are very welcome, altogether we will make the ‘Race of the Century.’”

Naturally.

Seriously, though, this is an excellent opportunity for the sport. Glen Helen has proven it has the ability to field world-class events with one of the best AMA Nationals over the past decades. Race fans will get a preview of the ultimate moto showdown before the FIM makes another trip to America on September 26 for the Red Bull FIM Motocross des Nations in Lakewood, Colorado.

That is awesome lets hope all the american factory teams show up on there week off and we get to see the best the world has to offer all in one spot. The only thing that would make it better would be to have it at MX338 because then I would get to see it live lol.
