Rattlesnake National Enduro Results 2013

Tuesday, July 30, 2013
Factory Husaberg’s Russell Bobbitt took his first AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series win of the year at the Rattlesnake National Enduro. He led an all Husaberg podium, which included his teammates Nick Fahringer and Michael Lafferty in second and third, respectively.

Bobbitt started off the season a regular podium finisher, but a mid-year injury kept him from competing in the Loose Moose National Enduro in early June. He placed 15th at the Foggy Mountain National Enduro later that month, but was finally back to full strength at the Rattlesnake, where he came out swinging. Bobbitt led the first three special tests, building a gap of nearly one minute on the field. Though he didn’t come through fastest in the final three tests, Bobbitt entered the final stage with a 40 second lead, which he was able to maintain to the checkers.

“I am happy to win one,” said Bobbitt. “I came pretty close in Texas earlier this year and didn’t actually have high expectations going into this round. I have struggled at this round in the past, and luckily, was able to come out here with Nick (Fahringer) a week early and train and ride in similar conditions. I think having more time and options to adjust my set-up helped my confidence before the start of the race. My bike was flawless the whole day and my conditioning felt great. I didn’t struggle with any issues from my earlier injury and I feel good about the progress we have made.”

Series points leader, Charlie Mullins of Factory KTM, finished fourth, marking only the second time this season he’s finished off the top-step. The wet, slick conditions proved difficult for Mullins during the race, with a number of crashes making it tough to keep a consistent pace.

“I suffered a few crashes throughout the tests today which set me back,” stated Mullins. “I really had a tough time in the fifth test but the sixth test was smooth and a perfect amount of rocks – not too many. I was able to make up some ground in that test, which helped bump up my overall finish.”

Obermeyer Yamaha’s Brad Bakken finished in fifth-place followed by AmPro Yamaha’s Jesse Groemm in sixth.

Mullins holds a 29 point advantage in the overall standings ahead of Fahringer, who sits second. Lafferty is third and Bobbitt is fourth, 62 points adrift of the leader.

Nice to see world class two strokes still being made and raced. How about a test of the Husaberg TE125?
