2010 AMA National Enduro Schedule

AMA Racing
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced today the schedule for the 2010 AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series presented by Moose Racing. In addition to welcoming many favorite venues back to the schedule, the 2010 season will take the championship to Maine for the first time in decades.

"This schedule has shaped up to be one of the best ever," said AMA Director of Racing Joe Bromley. "The National Enduro Promotions Group (NEPG) has worked hard the last few years to take this series to the next level, and we're looking forward to reaching even greater heights in 2010."

The National Enduro title was first awarded in 1923, and is one of the longest-running national motorsports championships in the world. The championship series features AMA Racing-sanctioned events and is one of the premier off-road racing series in the country, giving both amateur competitors and the country's fastest enduro racers a showcase for their talents.

One of the highlights for many racers this summer will be the return to the national schedule of the Jack Pine Enduro. The Jack Pine dates to the first year of the championship when the race crowned the first-ever national champion. Oscar Lenz won the title that year.

"With the Jack Pine once again being part of the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Championship Series presented by Moose Racing schedule, the return of the historic Alligator Enduro -- which will celebrate its 60th running this year -- and our trip to the challenging woods of the Northeast, we're looking forward to a special year in 2010," said the NEPG's Alan Randt. "We believe we've put together a program that offers our racers and fans variety, exposure and, of course, the challenging terrain and great riding that they demand."

Randt says that the NEPG will continue to hone some of the improvements it has introduced to the series the last two years, including electronic scoring.

"There are challenges in collecting scores from all the checks, some of which can be 20 miles out, and delivering final results in a timely manner," Randt says. "But with computer technology and cell phone coverage being what they are these days, typically if we have a strong enough signal we can provide nearly real-time scoring."

Randt says that other improvements for 2010 include a more consistent pro purse, and additional factory involvement.
This year's championship will begin on Jan. 31 in the Manchester State Forest near Wedgefield, S.C. The 10-round championship will wrap on Oct. 2 in Matthews, Ind. The full schedule is below. For updates, see AMARacing.com and NationalEnduro.com.

The general stores at the Gas stops at enduro's were interesting . Those stores were like Movie sets - That is on the days that the enduro's were held . The local rural residents that lived where the Enduro's took place would talk to the big city motorcycle riders . Two famous general stores were the Weavers store where the '' Lonesome Pine '' Enduro took Place and the Penlands General store where the ''Stone Mountain Enduro '' took place . Any eastern Enduro Rider would love to visit those said stores .

The writeup on the internet about the '' LIttle Brown Jug Enduro '' is fantastic . It is amazing that an enduro was held in a southern state in 1955 . It was the early 1970's until most southern enduro's were first orginized . Many people do not realize that Enduro's are one of the oldest forms of motorcycle racing .

Many others and myself feel that the Jamestown Tennessee area is the best place east of the Missippi River to sponser an Enduro . I have never been to another place that has woods that big . The 1978 '' little Harpeth Enduro '' was held there . That run was 137 miles long . No more than 2 miles of that run was on the road . Jamestown is where the legendary Enduro rider called Joshua Mccoy was said to be from . I hope that my writeups will bring back the Joshua McCoy craze .

Enduro riding history was made on the second weekend of July in 1974 . On that memorable weekend the Loco Ciento Enduro was born . The run was held on the Cumberland Plateau near the Tennessee - Kentucky State line . All but the first 5 miles of that run was in the woods . It was in the area that the race was held where the ledgend of '' Joshua McCoy '' Began . Joshua was a legedary man that was based on the real life riders that lived in the area where the race was held . Joshua became incredibally famous . There was even a Hare Scramble race that was named after him .

The '' Lookout Mountain Enduro '' was the first Enduro to be held in the Cumberland Mountains . The '' Little Brown Jug Enduro ' was the first Enduro to be held anywhere in the Southern Appalachian Mountains . Many others and myself feel that it is amazing that I lived at a location where an Enduro took place in 1966 . In 1974 there were two other Enduro's that were held on the Cumberland Plateau . The '' Black Diamond Enduro '' in Harlan Kentucky and The Loco Ciento Enduro '' in Jamestown Tennesse . The Loco Ciento was all off the Road with the exception of the first five miles . That Enduro did not even cross a paved road . The '' Loco Ciento '' Enduro was truly one of the most spectecular Enduro's that was ever held .

I love to tell people about the experences that I had riding in and laying out Enduro's . One time back in August of 1985 a large group of riders a had assembled to lay out an enduro trail . The men were laying out trails for the Lookout Mountain Enduro . The riders were equiped with large knives , axes , and one was even had a small Chain saw . A group of concererned citizens were curious as what that group of men was doing . That group of people were convinced that those riders were going in to the woods to plant Marijuna . I am writing a book that will cover the history of southern enduro's . I plan to feature thae History making Enduro's lioke the Stone Mountain , Lookout Mountain , Lonesome Pine , and Little Harpeth Enduro's .
Joe Kerr -early southern Enduro's  April 22, 2010 09:06 AM
I wILL CONTINUE TO WRITE ABOUT THE EXPERENCES THAT I had when I lived where the Lookout Mountain Enduro Took place . Most people never did live where an Enduro took place . I saw an Enduro for the first time in 1966 . There was a Woman that used to attend the '' Stone Mountain Enduro ''. She said that her Father started riding the Stone Mountain Enduro in 1958 . That is amazing to me . People think that it is amazing that I lived where an Enduro took place in 1966 . That woman was one of the first people to ever see an Enduro . - That is in a Southern State .
joe kerr -Wyoming enduro  March 25, 2010 09:23 AM
I hope to ride in that national Enduro that is going to be held in Wyoming on June 20 . I generally only ride in Enduro's that are in the Mountains . I may visit Westpoint to try to sell some of my Joshua McCoy - Joe Dirt Enduro jackets . The jackets feature some of the old and classic Enduro Jacket Patches . The 1969 Stone Mountain and the 1971 Lookout Mountain Enduro Patches are some of many of the patches . Anyone that wants to reserve a Jacket can contact me at CHASTANLEY@HOTMAIL.COM .
Joe Kerr -A history Making enduro  March 17, 2010 08:55 AM
I did not get to ride the Alligator Enduro . I am sure that it was a success . Speaking of successful Enduro's the first Sunday in March of this year was the 30th anniversary of the infamous 1980 '' Stone Mountain National Enduro .'' There was a 2 to 3 inch cover of Snow on the Ground when the run started . It was an Enduro to remember . A rider from Mississippi made the statement that he was going to move to Northwest Georgia after the Enduro was over . That rider did move to that area . That said Rider helped in organizing the 1985 '' lookout Mountain Enduro ! . '' I will live in the Mountains until I die '' . - That rider often made that comment .
joe kerr -a new kind of enduro  March 4, 2010 10:02 AM
I love the sport of Enduro riding . I fell in love with the sport the first time that I saw one back in 1966 . Not everyone that attends Enduro's can ride trails that they never had ridden real fast . There are many riders that have ridden in many Enduro's and never won an Enduro Trophy . There needs to be a new kind of Enduro where the object of the race is not speed , I have some ideas and I would like to hear from other riders that have ideas on how to invent an Enduro where speed is not what determines the winner . I can be reached at chastanley@hotmail.com . I own land where the Stone Mountain and Lookout Mountain Enduro's took place . I take people on trail rides in the area and show them the spectator points were .

I did not attend the ''Sumter National Enduro '' . It woukd have been a success . Hopefully they did not get any of that Snow . I did ride it back in 1976 . It rained all day . I finished sixth place in my class . On the Saturday before that race the club featured a Dirt Bike Drag race . I did ride in the race . Maybe next year I will attend the Sumter Enduro . It has been 35 years since I have been to Sumter . It would bring back memories . Speaking of memories any Southern Enduro Rider would love to visit the area where the Stone Mountain and Lookout Mountain Enduro's took Place . I used to live At the foot of Lookout Mountain . I lived at the end of a Dirt Road . An enduro trail started where the Road ended . I will continue to share my adventures with the Younger riders . It will help to generate intrest in the Sport .
