Kurt Caselli won the final round of the 2012 AMA Kenda National Hare & Hound Series, but a final points tally won't be released until a number of disputes are settled.
FMF/KTM’s Kurt Caselli took his sixth win of the season in the 10th and final round of the 2012 AMA Kenda National Hare & Hound Series. Due to multiple protests filed against one of the riders, official results won’t be posted until the disputes are settled, but unofficially Kawasaki
rider David Pearson took second and Jacob Argubright is listed in third.
Caselli got off to a good start, taking the holeshot and leading through the first forty-mile loop with Honda
rider David Kamo and Pearson trailing in second and third. Caselli had built up a 15 second lead mid-way through the competition and continued to extend his advantage through the second loop, coming across the finish comfortably ahead of Pearson.
“The second loop was really fun and had some cool rocky down hills,” said Caselli. “The club did a really good job of changing up the course and I had a lot of fun riding today.”
According to the unofficial tally, Kamo finished in fourth followed by Kawasaki’s Nick Burson in fifth and KTM rider Ivan Ramierz in sixth.
Speaking from the KTM
camp, team manager Antti Kallonen said, “Regardless of what happens with the pending protest to determine the title, we’re happy to finish out the series on a high note. We really had a great year despite missing a few races, but we’re glad Kurt was able to come back from his injury and win those last few races. The Hare & Hounds have been great way for our team to make bike adjustments and test settings as we direct our focus to the upcoming SCORE/Baja 1000
If finishing orders remain as listed, Pearson would walk away with the 2012 AMA Kenda National Hare & Hound title since he needed to finish third or better to clinch the championship. The final tally will be announced once all disputes are resolved.
Official results were posted on November 1, 2012 after the disputes were reviewed and appeals considered. Pearson was charged with failing to adhere to rider fueling guidelines during the competition and was penalized five-minutes for the infraction. He earned points for a fifth-place finish after the penalty, giving the title to Caselli for 2012. Official results are listed below.
