Vicki Golden shows off her X Games gold medal.
Vicki Golden posted her first gold medal in the Moto X Women's race at X Games 17 ahead of Tarah Geiger.
At the end of the evening 19-year-old Vicki Golden stood atop the podium after taking gold in the X Games 17 Moto X Women’s race. Tarah Geiger posted second to take Silver, the 2008 Moto X champion failing to get a good start as Golden led the field from wire-to-wire. Perhaps the greatest storyline of the evening was the absence of headliners Jessica Patterson and Ashley Fiolek. During practice Fiolek suffered a hard fall, sustaining a concussion which prevented her from competing. Just when it appeared JP$ would benefit from Fiolek’s absence, she too was pushed out of the final after going down hard in Heat 2.

When the gates dropped in the final Golden was clearly the most aggressive as she swept into the lead ahead of Geiger, Livia Lancelot and Sara Price. Just moments into the first lap Price ended her chance for a medal by crashing. Up front Golden continued her lead while charging hard through the whoop section. Though Geiger stayed with her initially, she was eventually outpaced by Golden. In the end Golden snatched the checkers well ahead of her rivals, grabbing her first ever X Games gold medal.
