Late in 2013, Red Bull teased off-road fans with an exhibition of a new kind of racing, which it called Straight Rhythm. Videos of some of the top riders in Supercross and Motocross, like Ryan Dungey, James Stewart, Justin Bogle and Cole Seely gained world-wide attention and millions of views. The concept is simple, taking many of the obstacles found in SX and MX (doubles, triples, whoops, table tops and the like), and setting them in a straight line, with riders squaring off in head-to-head battle down the half-mile stretch. It seemed a great idea for a full event, and now Red Bull announces that this will indeed happen.
The inaugural Red Bull Straight Rhythm competition is scheduled for October 4, 2014 at Auto Club Raceway at Fairplex in Pomona, California. According to the Red Bull announcement, “each rider races a best of three in a bracket format, allowing the best of the best to throw down, and eventually pairing the two fastest riders head-to-head.” Tickets will go on sale starting in July at www.redbull.com/straightrhythm
Here’s a video explaining the concept further, with plenty of footage of riders in action.
