American Motorcyclist Association Racing Logo
The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) announced today the 2009 schedule for the AMA Racing Winter Dirt Track Series. Kicking off on Saturday, Feb. 28, and running through Wednesday, March 4, the series will feature five days of short-track, half-mile and TT racing at three separate venues.

"It's great to be headed to Florida once again for the 2009 AMA Racing Winter Dirt Track Series," said AMA Racing Dirt Track Director Ken Saillant. "Riders from around the country compete in this series to prepare themselves and their equipment for another fun-filled season. Dave Joiner and Steve Nace do an outstanding job of providing quality tracks and hard-working officials. There's no better way to shake off the winter cold, go fast, have fun, and size up the upcoming season's competition. It will be a great week."

Riders will face off in a number of age- and machine-based classes for early season bragging rights at the AMA Racing Winter Dirt Track Series. Some of the nation's top amateur talent will compete on bikes ranging from 50cc two-strokes to 450cc race-bred dirt-trackers based on modern four-stroke motocross machinery. With three dirt-track disciplines represented, it will give all racers a shot at winning an overall series title, regardless of their specialty.

Shoemaker #55 -AMA Amatuer Winter Nationals  March 6, 2009 04:08 PM
This was the first time we have been to Florida. My son Jacob #55 wanted to race in the Winter Nationals and really thought it would be a great event like when we went to Illinois, not even close. The track at Municipal was a rough mess, but it looked pretty nice for the Pro's. Jacob had a nice time just seening some of the other riders that he had met at other events. It was alot of fun racing until #77 kicked him several times at Barberville to make him go wide to miss finishing in 1st place overall.I guess you meet riders and parents like this, it just lucky Jacob didn't get hurt. The officials said they didn't see anything. The presentation on the last day was a joke, the 1st place riders podium was a cooler, we paid $50.00 per class and drove 1100 miles to get a trophy for 1st place that was 6" high at Municipal and get to stand on a cooler, riders were not even given a chance to thank sponsors. The riders and parents were not at all happy!
