Nick Burson takes 1st in the pro class and first overall in the USDR opening round.
Nick Burson knows a thing or two about protecting his turf and his wire-to-wire victory in the USDR (United States Desert Racing) opener at Red Mountain, CA has other desert racers worrying if there's any chance of ever beating the 23-year-old Ridgecrest, CA native. Burson, the 2007 and 2008 USDR series champion has kicked off the year with a string of impressive finishes in various racing events that make his boss, Ty Davis, owner Zip-Ty Racing, and the team's primary sponsor, Husqvarna Motorcycles, very happy.
"Things went pretty well for me right off the start. I grabbed the holeshot and managed to stay ahead of the pack throughout the race. And any desert racer will tell you that's where you want to be if you want to win," offered Burson. "I really like the Husky TC510 I'm riding and the training and testing our team does is paying off. The new suspension settings we used this weekend made the bike handle great everywhere. It was a flawless day." Throughout 2007 and 2008 Burson made his mark with a string of impressive wins resulting in him claiming a string of AMA District 37 and Big 6 Series championships. Burson's affinity for going faster than most through the rocks and cactus caught the eye of veteran off-road champ, Davis, and eventually lynched his current deal to ride Huskys throughout 2009. The chance to refine his already sizable talents with one of America's most talented rider/coaches is just icing on the cake.
