Amateur National Motocross – Friday

Friday, August 07, 2009
Heath Harrison assumed the lead in Moto 2 of the Four Stroke Class when Dalton Carlson crashed out of the race after leading for the first two laps. The Silverhill, Alabama rider proceeded to build a ten second gap over Shane Durham in second, setting the fastest overall time of the race on Lap 6 of the ten lap race. Durham, meanwhile, fended-off the early passing attempts of Garrett Toth to take second. Toth dropped back five second on Lap 6 and then spent the remainder of the race keeping Nick Myers at bay. Drew Yenerich made a charge past Myers on Lap 8, but Myers retaliated on the final lap to relegate Yenerich to fifth.

Michael Treadwell pressured Dubach for the first four laps of the race, riding within 2 seconds of the frontrunner and setting the fastest overall time on Lap 4. However, Dubach set a personal best time on Lap 5 that was three seconds quicker than Treadwell’s, which was just the start to the relentlessly quick laps that the DRD founder would turn out. Dubach ultimately cross the finish-line over 12 seconds in front of Treadwell. John Grewe and Trampas Parker would hold third and fourth-place for the entire race, finishing over half-a-minute behind Dubach. Earl May recovered from 10th on Lap 1 to take fifth over a minute behind Dubach.

Most of the competitive classes at Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Motocross seem to have one dominant rider and the 450 A/Pro Sport Class highlights this point in the form of Dean Wilson. Wilson managed to finish over 40 seconds ahead of second-placed Travis Baker, despite strong runs from Baker and Derek Hall. How fast was Wilson? Well, nine of his 11 laps were faster than Baker’s fastest lap, while the ones that weren’t were still notably faster than Baker’s equivalent times. Hall lost second to Baker on Lap 5 and remained in third for the remainder of the race. Cody Robbins took fourth after settling into the position on Lap 3. Travis Bright rounded off the top five as he charged his way through the field after finishing Lap 1 in 14th.
