Italian motorcycle apparel and safety brand Dainese continues to push hard in the U.S. motorcycling and action sport markets. Two years after initial introduction the innovative D-air airbag-equipped one-piece road race suit arrives for U.S. consumption. It is the first commercially available racing suit to offer this technology in the States.

Carrying a retail price of $3999 ($4999 for made-to-fit custom) the D-air suit uses sophisticated electronics located in the aero hump of the suit capable of detecting a serious crash. When triggered, the airbag inflates in less time than it takes to blink an eye, offering additional protection for the rider’s shoulders, head and neck.

AMA road racer, Blake Young of the Yoshimura Suzuki team was the first American rider equipped with the suit, wearing it at the season ending race at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

Dainese brings the D-Air Racing suit to the USA for purchase after ten years of research and development.

“At first I thought, ‘what do I got to do to get me one of these’,” joked Young during the D-air suit unveil at the Costa Mesa, California D-store. “It has been a privilege and an honor… and hopefully I won’t be able to test it out [laughs]. Motorcycle racing is 90% between the ears. I was thinking to myself ‘Is it going to be heavy?’ It wasn’t. ‘Is it going to fit right?’ It fit like all my other Dainese suits.”

“In the first race, I didn’t get the result that I wanted,” continued Young. “So going into the second race, I thought, ‘Well, maybe I’ll show Dainese how their suit works’. It gave me the confidence to take chances and riding really hard. Hopefully this next year we can get us a championship with it.”

The D-air suit is available now at Dainese’s northern and southern California, and Chicago, Illinois D-Stores.
