Chad Reed

With several Supercross and Motocross championships under his belt from the US, Europe and Australia, Chad Reed has proven he's in it to win it.

Born in Newcastle, Australia, Reed picked up two Australian National titles before heading to Europe to race the GPs, from there it was onto the States to take on the AMA. Reed pulled off an East Coast SX Lites title in his first attempt and turned it into a Supercross championship in 2004. Riding for Yamaha, Reed proved one of the top-three riders in SX, consistently challenging rivals James Stewart and Ricky Carmichael and eventually bringing home another Supercross crown in 2008. Since coming to America, Reed has never finished a full season outside the top-10, and only twice outside the top-5.

Aboard a Suzuki in 2009, Reed took second overall in Supercross after a heated rivalry with Stewart that culminated in a tense Vegas finale where Reed tried to boot Bubba off the track. Reed took consolation in the SX finish by dominating the ’09 motocross season after Stewart announced he would not compete in the outdoor Nationals. Reed then defended his Australasian Supercross title aboard his new Monster Energy Kawasaki ride. 

For 2010 Reed got things off to a rocky start when he took two DNFs in the first two Supercross rounds. The Aussie broke his hand in Phoenix, forcing him to the sidelines for the rest of the series. Determined for a comeback, Reed took the win in the opening moto of the 2010 MX season at Hangtown. However, it would be the highlight of the season as the two-time Supercross champ would see his results gradually worsen throughout the series. Reed was later diagnosed with a virus and pulled out of the 2010 Nationals, eventually finishing 11th overall. Reed and Kawasaki parted ways near the end of the season.

In 2011 the Aussie forged a new path for himself by creating his own team – TwoTwo Motorsports. Reed proved a quick study in his new role as team owner by posting consistent podiums throughout a challenging SX season. In the end he finished second overall and was just four points shy of taking the title. Afterward Reed really found his groove in the outdoor nationals, winning four of the first six rounds in the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross series. A major crash at Millville set the former champ back, however, and after only managing one podium finish in the second half of the season he finished third overall.

Reed started the 2012 Supercross season strong, launching his second campaign with Two Two Motorsports along with factory support from American Honda, taking podiums in five of the first seven events. The Aussie went down in the seventh round and broke a tibia, fibula, two ribs, his T6 vertebrae and tore his anterior cruciate ligament. He was then forced to withdraw from the remainder of the season due to his injuries. Despite his absence from the final 10 rounds, Reed still took 12th in overall points.

Reed’s injuries left him sidelined for the 2012 Motocross season, but he’s since healed and is ready to start his 2013 SX campaign with Two Two Motorsports.
