The REV’IT Jerez gloves offer excellent fit which helps reduce hand fatigue when riding or racing.
When it comes to choosing a set of motorcycle gloves for hitting the twisties or racing on the weekend, fit, protection, and comfort are paramount. The folks over at European brand REV’IT think it has the solution with its REV'IT! Jerez Gloves
The Jerez gloves are the top-of-the-line model in the collection worn by many top-level MotoGP
road racers, including Randy de Puniet and Alvaro Bautista. The main structure is fabricated from kangaroo and cowhide leather supplemented by Kevlar lining inside adding a degree of abrasion and tear resistance. Impact protection in the wrist, knuckle and fingers areas come in the form of a honeycomb plastic topped by a thin piece of aluminum (cuff and knuckle area only). There are also tiny plastic sliders on the outside of the palm and pinky fingers.
The juncture where the fingers meet the palm features special semi-synthetic leather, designed by Pittards in England. The material offers the optimum amount of grip, sweat and moisture resistance. It’s also breathable, offers supple feel and has superior abrasion protection compared to standard leather. Another clever touch is the knurled reinforcement material on the inside of the right thumb that better withstands the constant twisting motion when the rider applies the throttle.
The Jerez gloves offer a slender cut and the fit is precise yet still true-to-size. Although it takes some pulling and wiggling to get your hand inside, it’s clear REV’IT nailed the fit as there’s virtually no excess fabric, bunching or pressure points. The gloves are secured with a conventional leather Velcro strap on the inside of the wrist and leather double-tab cuff also secured with Velcro. The inner cuff also offers a small area of perforation.
The palm area of the Jerez glove features special material to help the rider hold onto the handlebar.
Due in part to the softness of the leather, the Jerez gloves break-in almost immediately. The inside of the palm offers excellent grip against a variety of handlebar grip materials including stock sportbikes and racing-style Renthal grips. Overall finger and hand dexterity is very high which makes it easier for the rider to manipulate the throttle and front brake lever during delicate riding scenarios, i.e. trail braking and acceleration at a high degree of lean angle.
Probably the biggest testament to the gloves' performance is how it functioned during this past weekend’s WERA season finale club race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Over three days we completed upwards of 120 laps including 10 races and my hands are in perfect condition with no blisters. As far as crash protection is concerned we can’t yet comment since we haven’t hit the deck, but considering the precise fit and high-quality stitching we think they’ll do just fine in the event of a crash.
