More than 300 teams are on hand at the famed Bonneville Salt Flats for the inaugural Speed Trials by Bub. But the group we're rooting for is a collaborative effort between MotorcycleUSA and Sherms Cycle Products. We've taken our Kawasaki Mean Streak project bike and injected some extra oomph in the hopes of attaining a national speed record for its class.

Korf is our man on the scene, and he reports that some wet weather last week has caused a delay in getting the racing underway. As of Wednesday, though, the conditions at the track are being reported as the best in 40 years - which is good news for our guys, and rider Butch Cook in particular.

A half-dozen streamliners lead the charge as they gun for the 350-mph club and beyond. A host of Hayabusa riders are on hand with their sights set on the 250 club. And then there is us on our lightly modified 2002 Kawasaki Mean Streak hoping to break into the 150-mph club. Sure, it's not 300 but, hell, it is a cruiser after all.

Stay tuned - we will keep you posted with news and notes from the event as they become available.
