The names on top remained the same, but the action was anything but stale as Supercross rolled into Anaheim's Angels Stadium for the second time in 2009.

James Stewart - Phoenix
James Stewart is back to his winning ways, but remains 12 points down in the title hunt.

SUPERCROSS

Mike Alessi scored the holeshot, but it was Honda veteran Kevin Windham who jumped out to the early advantage in the 20-lap Supercross main. Yamaha's Josh Grant and Kawasaki's Ryan Villopoto chased the Honda man, with the usual front runners, James Stewart and Chad Reed, piecing their way up through the ranks. Stewart entered the race banged up from an earlier practice crash, while Speedy Reedy went down in Turn 2 on the first lap of the main.

On Lap 11 Stewart ran down Windham for the lead, as Reed recovered positions. Grant surrendered fourth to Reed, then the two-time SX champ took aim at Villopoto. The former Lites dominator could not fend off the Aussie's advance, as the Suzuki ace dispatched the KX450F rider on Lap 18. With Stewart uncontested up front, Reed made the most of the final two laps, managing to make the pass on Windham on the final corner and finishing a strong second. Windham rounded out the A2 podium.

The victory helps Stewart close the points gap on Reed, although the Yamaha ace remains fourth overall. Saving a couple points on that final corner, Reed's championship-leading advantage over Stewart is 12 points. Early season surprise, Josh Grant, is three behind Reed at 61. Andrew Short is third with 53 points.

Ryan Dungey - Phoenix

LITES

In the 15-lap Lites main Kawaski's Ryan Morais and Suzuki's Ryan Dungey tussled for the lead, with the KX250F rider scoring the holeshot but the RM-Z250 rider making the pass in the rythm section on Lap 4. Kawasaki's Jake Weimer circled in third, while Honda riders Dan Reardon and Chris Blose rode fourth and fifth.

Once out front, Dungey opened up a gap and cruised to his second consecutive Lites victory. Morais finished second, five seconds off the leader, scoring his third podium of 2009 in as many tries. Weimer held on for third-place, with Yamaha's Jason Lawrence overtaking the Hondas for fourth. Blose rounded out the top five.

In the West Coast Lites points chase, Dungey holds a six-point lead over Morais, with Weimer a mere point behind his Kawasaki teammate.

I hate Stewart and I am pulling for the Suzuki and Reed! I think Reed is a smoother, smarter and more in control than Stewart and will win his third championship. Stewart will eat alright.... dirt as he crashes again, and again, and again!
