Round 11 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series was another exciting extension of the action-packed racing that led to tonight’s showdown in New Orleans. James Stewart was able to pick up another victory and begin whittling down Chad Reed’s renewed lead.

James Stewart picked up three valuable points on Chad Reed with a win in New Orleans.
“I got a great start,” said Stewart. “I had to win tonight – point blank. I had to win. This is what I needed heading into the race next weekend in St. Louis.”
Stewart made his intentions obvious from the start and led every lap of the main event. Reed followed on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki but was never able to make a pass stick. Broc Hepler was third throughout the 20-lap affair on his factory Yamaha and Kevin Windham snuck into fourth at around the three-quarter mark. Red Bull Honda’s Andrew Short rounded out the top-five.
The win brings Stewart to within eight points, but Reed’s consistent habits of finishing second when he can’t win have kept him in excellent position.

Coming off a disastrous crash in the main event last week at Daytona, Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Austin Stroupe redeemed himself with a 15-lap sweep in the Louisiana Superdome. The number 74 of Branden Jesseman followed after taking the runner-up position on Lap 4 and Honda-mounted Blake Wharton was third.

Austin Stroupe came back from a big crash last week for the win, but he still trails in the championship race.
Series point leader, Christophe Pourcel, finished fourth and maintains a very significant 31-point lead over Stroupe in the title chase. Stroupe was able to surpass Rockstar Makita Suzuki’s Nico Izzi who holds third only two points behind.
