Stewart 7 holds off Reed 1 - 2009 AMA Supercross - Las Vegas
On lap 15, Chad Reed made an aggressive pass on Stewart for second place. Stewart quickly regrouped and settled into third place.
Team San Manuel Yamaha's James Stewart took the second Supercross Championship of his career, Saturday night at the 17th and final stop of the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series, an FIM World Championship.

Before a sold-out Las Vegas crowd of 39,506, Stewart bested his Heat Race win streak taking the win in Heat Race 2, giving him a record 16 wins out of the 17 Heat races raced this season. Stewart also continued providing footnotes to the history books, once again setting the fastest qualifying lap time of the day - 64.782. Teammate Kyle Chisholm was unfortunately not able to race the Las Vegas season final due to sanctions the FIM had imposed following last weeks black flag for…“affecting another racer's progress”.

With crowds on their feet for the entire Main Event, Stewart thundered out of the gate with true championship race exuberance, just a tire length behind another rider for the holeshot and quickly moved into the lead. On lap 2, Stewart was passed and moving him into second place where he remained for another 13 laps. On lap 15, series second place championship points holder, Chad Reed made an aggressive pass on Stewart for second place. Stewart quickly regrouped and settled into third place, for the remaining 5 laps of the race, a strategy that provided him with a third-place podium spot and a four-point lead to secure the 2009 Monster Energy AMA Supercross series title.
James Stewart shows his fat check and his new number one plate - 2009 AMA Supercross - Las Vegas
James Stewart has worked hard this season to recover from his first round crash.

An absolutely ecstatic and visibly emotional Stewart had this to say, “This Championship feels great and means more to me than any other title I've gotten so far! It was A LOT of work, being part of a new team - L&M Racing's San Manuel; a Yamaha bike - but sooo worth it! I just want to thank everyone who has been involved with the team and has helped to make this possible!”

Swerv -A true champ.  May 20, 2009 12:13 PM
I remember the first time seeing Stewart on tv, thinking this guy rides so on the edge. Its a riding style I can never get out of my mind - so loose even to the point of him casing it on occasion. It is easily recognised, this guy is not afraid of the throttle! Reed did well though - a superb rider in his own right. Close riding makes for enthralling racing. Stewart, you inspire me to buy a bike and ride again. Bill Hudson, maybe you should learn to ride a bike like Stewart. Maybe you would feel a little less pissed off...

somewhere in ohio -winning ways  May 6, 2009 03:50 PM
Good job bubba you deserve the championship I been watching you win ever since you was whipping everybody in the 125 class year after year. And now your starting to do it all over again in the 450 class keep it up the good work. The only way Reed was even able to get as close as he did to winning the championship is because he's been training and practicing under the watchful eyes of RC.
D.Stewart -Don't be mad!!!  May 5, 2009 07:55 PM
It's ok guys, someone will dethrone the new king of super cross someday, but remember this? RC did the same during his prime. As a matter of fact he did it 10 TIMES!! Let's take his accomplishments and the adversity he's overcome in a sport dominated by Caucasians and give the man a round of applause. He deserves it.
Bob -I agree  May 5, 2009 05:24 PM
Bill i agree totally! If he and reed were not to race anymore what a series it would be! But thats not going to happen so maybee start watching another sport!!
Bill Hudson -Piss off stewart!!  May 5, 2009 05:12 PM
I can't stand him!!! Would some one please step up and whip his ass! Come back RC!! I can't watch supercross while he is winning by so much!
