AMA Pro Races at Miller Motorsports Cancelled

Friday, March 20, 2009
Formula Xtreme racing action - Miller Motorsports Park
AMA Pro Racing and Miller Motorsports Park officials couldn't come to an agreement, so there will be no AMA Pro Racing at Miller during World Superbike weekend this year.
Officials at Miller Motorsports Park announced today that the AMA Pro Racing portion of the FIM HANNspree Superbike World Championship weekend, May 29-31, has been cancelled.

Originally, the plan had been for the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL and AMA Pro SuperSport presented by Shoei series to share the bill with the HANNspree Superbike World Championship and FIM Supersport World Championship events. Unfortunately, track officials were unable to come to an agreement with AMA Pro Racing and the decision was made to cancel the AMA Pro portion of the event.

“AMA Pro Racing has been a part of Miller Motorsports Park since the track opened in 2006,” said MMP Director of Racing Mitch Wright, “and we have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship and some great racing during that time. It is most unfortunate that we were unable to reach an agreement with AMA Pro for this year’s event, but it was a business decision that had to be made. We hope to be able to have the AMA Pro teams, riders and officials back at Miller Motorsports Park in the years to come.”

“It is regrettable that we were not able to agree on terms with AMA Pro Racing for this year’s event,” said MMP CEO/President Dan Davis. “Roger Edmondson and his group have been great to work with and both sides negotiated in good faith, but we were unable to bridge the gap between what they felt they needed and what we felt was equitable. Hopefully we can work together again in the future.”

“We worked closely with our friends at Miller Motorsports Park in attempting to conclude a business relationship but in the end we were unsuccessful,” said AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson. “Although we are disappointed about this turn of events, we hope to return to the Miller facility in the coming years and look forward to their 2009 FIM World Superbike race that marks the return of reigning AMA Pro Road Racing Champion Ben Spies to his home country.”

MMP officials will have an announcement regarding a replacement event for the AMA Pro classes in the very near future.

Yet again, the DMG ruins another chance to see great racing. I am disgusted with this. Someone please kick NASBIKE out!!! What more is to come of the DMG ruining our American Racing?
Iowaboy -Somewhat unfortunate  March 22, 2009 09:00 AM
As someone who was at this event last year, this is an unfortunate turn. While the WSBK racing was excellent, I have to say the riders from AMA were much more accessible. My wife and I actually had a chance to talk to Duhamel, May, Hacking and Bostrom. The WSBK guys were virtually no where to be found other than on the track.

This is a gain for the sport. Let the DMG $uperbike $eries die a graceful death...

This sad development sinks the best co-marketing opportunity since MotoGP came back to America. With 3-time AMA Champ Spies on the ascendant in World Superbike, and with his former teammate, chief nemesis, and 6-time AMA Champ Mat Mladin still racing AMA Superbike, the stage had been set for a remarkable showcase event. Too bad then that AMA Pro/DMG couldn't bring themselves to accept what probably was a less-than-perfect deal to race at Miller. After all, MMP knew it had a real draw in the World series, especially with World Supersport coming to the event this year too. They didn't really need the AMA classes to hold a successful weekend. Sad, though, that MMP couldn't see beyond their advantage and give AMA (even with the hated DMG in charge) enough concessions to join the party. What likely will still be a great event might have been truly epic with AMA's participation.

This is great news! Now I will buy tickets at Miller Motorsports Park to watch some REAL road racing in America and none of the money will go to DMG. Now if we can only get DMG to cancell the rest of the season and let someone else run pro road racing in this country.
