Daytona SportBike Leader Hacking Suspended

Monday, March 23, 2009
Monster Energy Kawasaki s Jamie Hacking.
Monster Kawasaki's Jamie Hacking has been fined and suspended by the AMA after this weekend's outburst.
AMA Pro racer Jamie Hacking, the current leader in the Daytona Sportbike class, has been suspended after a profanity-laden outburst this weekend following the races in Fontana, California. Hacking finished second in both SportBike races and holds a nine-point lead over Jason DiSalvo in championship points. Here’s the official word from AMA Pro Racing:

Monster Kawasaki’s Jamie Hacking has been suspended indefinitely following this weekend's event at Auto Club Speedway for conduct detrimental to the sport of professional motorcycle racing. The culminating incident occurred in the Auto Club Speedway media center following post-race interviews on Sunday where Hacking used a string of profane language while exiting the press interview area. Prior to this incident, Hacking displayed additional acts of inappropriate behavior in both public and media interviews.

"No premier sporting organization would tolerate, whether it be motorsports or major league stick and ball sports, the level of disrespectful, profane and vulgar language in a public forum as demonstrated by Jamie Hacking this weekend at Auto Club Speedway," said AMA Pro Road Racing Managing Event Director Colin Fraser. "His behavior was totally disrespectful to the media, his competitors and the sport of motorcycle racing in general."

Hacking will be considered for reinstatement pending payment of a $4,000 fine and delivery of a public apology to AMA Pro Road Racing officials. Subsequent to payment of the fine and receipt of an apology acceptable to AMA Pro Road Racing, Hacking will also be suspended for one full event weekend.

All fines paid to AMA Pro Road Racing will be donated to Camp Boggy Creek, a Paul Newman Hole in the Wall Camp located in Eustis, Florida, and the Roadracing World Action Fund.

Additionally, AMA Pro Road Racing also placed riders Michael Beck, Kevin Boisvert, Mat Mladin, Mark Simon and Dustin O'Hara are on probation due to failure to participate in Sunday's mandatory autograph session.

AMA has been unwatchable for three years. But I watched it because I am a motorcycle enthusiast and I attended regional races for the same reason. DMG can do nothing but help this declining sport. Think I'm crazy? Lets look at the NASCRAP model. TV drives everything. DMG will get AMA top billing on the television. Obviously not initially but the exposure and connections will bring the big time sponsorship required to take this sport to the next level(purses, event promotion). Throwing a post race hissy fit is not the way to encourage corporate sponsorship. If Hacking has a problem with DeSalvo he can settle on the track by finishing in front of him. Thats the only thing that matters at the end of the day.

Way to go DMG! Now take away the right hand turns and make all the bikes the same and you will have completed the labotomization of the sport!!

DMG's entire thought process is WRONG! Races televised weeks after they were actually run?! Airing these programs from 10 PM - 12 AM EST?! Their kidding...right??? Someone please wake me from this nightmare! I'm the last person you would call "brand loyal" being that I've owned many makes and models of cars and motorcycles but damn...would it kill DMG during their race airing to occasionally list WTF brand motorcycles these guys are riding??? The DaMaGe is done..AMA has turned it's back on its' fans. Time for the fans of the sport to turn their backs in return. Hello Moto GP and WSBK!
Stenman -AMA vs WSB  March 27, 2009 11:02 AM
World superbike rules! AMA is crap, and it gets worse every year. AMA officials should get some tickets for Miller Motorsports when WSB comes to the states and take detailed notes. I will be there. But I wont be attending ANY lame AMA events. Oh yeah if they want tickets they better hurry because it will be SOLD OUT! You can buy AMA tickets to any event at the gate then go pick one of the many empty seats.
Gracie -Go Hacking!  March 26, 2009 08:31 PM
I am actually astounded by the reaction DMG had to the "Hacking Incident"!! I watched the interview and DeSalvo started the incident and as for Hacking walking off slewing a string of profanities .. well since it was not televised I think DMG is blowing this out of proportion! I have been to Pro football games, hockey games, baseball games and heard many profanities uttered from the fields not to mention the ones I see as I read their lips on TV. I find DMG a joke! I love racing and I love watching it live as it happens! I even went to went to 2 events last year but no more. Bike Racing is not NASCAR and DMG is ruining it!!!! What part of ... I also don't want to watch a race 3 weeks later after I have read all the reviews does DMG not understand! Maybe all the riders and teams should band together and go on strike until DMG puts the Racing back into Road Racing! Very Unhappy Fan
Jake -Pretty sad state of affairs!  March 24, 2009 05:51 PM
First the DMG destroys American road racing, then we are supposed to sit around and take in more of their BS propoganda. This is still all just playing out as a power struggle between Edmonds and the manufacturers.
Puckler -WTF!  March 24, 2009 09:59 AM
Seeing as how if DMG never made a big deal about Hacking’s comments no one would have known anything. The races won’t be televised until a week or two from now, and considering some of the many asinine comments said by Roger Edmondson himself in the press, I find this whole ordeal laughable. I could understand if Hacking had been involved in something like an illegal gun possession like so many NFL players or accused of rape like NBA players or using illegal performance enhancement drugs like MLB…see my point all of these other “professional’ athletes did terrible things and they can still play, no public apologies demanded, and they still retain most of their sponsors. Geezze, it’s not like Jamie Hacking was drowning or electrocuting dogs that lost a fight or something.
SamXRl -OMG it's DMG  March 24, 2009 07:03 AM
Roadracing in the states is such a sad affair it is almost laughable! Racing with maybe 8-10 real factory type riders followed by mostly backmarkers is BORING!!AMA mishandled roadracing and drove away hardcore fans and it doesn't look to get much better with DMG. The reason DMG has created a juggernaut with Nascar is the amount and level of competition and teams. Having major brands back out of our roadracing series with little big named talent = a racing series that will always be kept in the shadows! No big named promotors can bring in fans when the level of competition doesn't warrant the price of a ticket.

Saturday,s race day was as usual. I did notice that the amount of big tents was less than last year; it look anemic. No music, no Mulisha, no sort of entertainment, and less crowd. Dmg seems to be doing everithing they can to mess up this events. I will not watch any races on TV three weeks after it happened. Thank goodness for Moto GP.

Sheesh! what a sad state of tune we are in when this actually matters. I've watched boxers curse each other through mouthpieces, Football Players MF each other on the field, and even bicyclists string together obscenity laden insults. What's the matter DMG? Are you afraid he'll pull a Ben Spies on you and this is your cover story? Thin Boys, thin.
Trogdor -DMG is the end of AMA  March 23, 2009 02:12 PM
I am hoping Hacker was speaking his mind about DMG, but some of it stemmed from the post race interview after race 2. You can watch it on roadracingworld.com, Eslick and Disalvo were talking a bit during Hackings interview, and during Disalvos interview Hacking and Eslick were talking a bit. Disalvo stopped twice and glared at Hacking, and then the sparks started from there. Probably goes back to when Hacking won the two titles with Yamaha, but still had to go to Kawasaki to get a Superbike ride because Disalvo (not sure how this guy ever had a factory ride) was already promised one.
charlestoast -easy to see why  March 23, 2009 01:32 PM
I don't think the article needed to spell out what Jamie Hacking was so angry about - DMG are a complete shambles! To suspend him indefinitely until he tells them they're actually wonderful is so pathetic! I presume it's the DMG rocket scientists who have decided that it's better not to show the races live on TV, or even the next day, presumably in an effort to get more fans to come to the races. Whilst that might make some kind of sense in a small country like England, for example, it makes no sense whatsoever in the US. Most people have jobs to go to and need to earn a living - they might go to one or two events if they're fairly close, or even schedule a holiday to take in one, but that's about the limit for most fans. DMG are just destroying the goodwill of their fans, and I expect 2009 will go down as a disastrous season. I for one am not bothering to watch the farce that is "AMA Primetime", and will merely read the reviews of the races. It must be a complete nightmare for the riders.
Moto Freak -Go Hacker!!!!!  March 23, 2009 12:21 PM
Thank God the riders are speaking up and expressing the disgust with DMG that the fans have!! The riders have my full support!
secaman -Hacking  March 23, 2009 12:04 PM
