Hacking on Probation for Remainder of 2009

Friday, March 27, 2009
Jamie Hacking scored a podium finish in Daytona SportBike race 1 securing a lead in the championship points.
Hacking will be returning to racing on probation but any further violations will cause a one-event penalty.
Attack Kawasaki rider Jamie Hacking has been placed on probation for the remainder of the 2009 AMA Pro Road Racing season and his minimum one-event penalty that was assessed following this past Sunday's race at Auto Club Speedway has been suspended for the balance of the season following a productive meeting today with AMA Pro Racing President Roger Edmondson and his management team at AMA Pro headquarters in Daytona Beach.

Hacking has paid the related $4,000 fine and also delivered to AMA Pro management in the meeting a letter of apology following the penalty for "conduct detrimental to the sport of professional motorcycle racing" that was assessed Sunday evening following the second and final AMA Pro Daytona SportBike presented by AMSOIL race of the weekend. Hacking used a string of profane language while exiting the press interview area in the Auto Club Speedway media center in addition to displaying additional acts of inappropriate behavior in both public and media interviews throughout the weekend.

Hacking will be permitted to compete in next weekend's event at Road Atlanta but any violations of his probation in that event or any other on the 2009 schedule will result in the immediate enforcement of the one-event penalty, in addition to any other fines, penalties or suspensions related to the infraction.

In the meeting and through his formal letter, Hacking apologized to the "AMA organization and staff, Auto Club Speedway, event sponsors, media and all of the race fans." AMA Pro officials were satisfied with Hacking's actions and demeanor during the meeting. The organization wishes to thank Hacking, his wife Rachel and Team Attack Kawasaki principal Richard Stanboli, who were all in attendance at the meeting, for their cooperation and professionalism in addressing this situation.

This press release will be the extent of AMA Pro Road Racing's comment on the matter.

With Hacking's suspension demoted to probation, the Daytona SportBike points leader is confirmed to race at Road Atlanta. Now Kawasaki has confirmed Hacking's teammate, Roger Hayden, is also set to race the upcoming round.

Roger Hayden is set to return to the Monster Energy Attack Kawasaki team at the Road Atlanta event on April 3-5. Hayden, the 2007 AMA Supersport champion, will compete in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike class on his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R.

I watched the video of the interview and it seemed as though Eslick was snickering about something before the interview got underway. There might have been something brewing before Disalvo got huffy about Hacking being a little bit rude. As a fan, I say great. I like a little color and sizzle added to the sport. It still doesn't make up for the absurd structure of the new season from DMG.

Never realy been a fan of DiSalvo and I watched the video of him acting like a child in the post-race interview. Granted, Hacking should have kept his mouth shut but the AMA's reaction was a little too much I think. I support Hacking and I hope he can win the championship. The best revenge is living well!

What Hacking did was really stupid and I wonder why he did it. There's no excuse for showing disrespect in public to a fellow racer. If you 2 have had a previous incident/issue you should deal with it outside public view.
