Corona Honda's Jake Holden set the fastest time in American Superbike.
Corona Honda’s Jake Holden ended up being the surprise of the day with the Washington rider taking the top honors in the American Superbike class. Holden riding a Honda CBR1000RR lapped Laguna’s 2.3-mile course at 1’25.525, which was nearly half a second faster than Rockstar Suzuki’s Tommy Hayden.
“Yeah I was surprised,” commented Holden when he found out he was first at the end of practice. “I’ve done 24s around here before and I know some of the other guys have gone even faster. I was riding pretty hard though today and I don’t know if I’ve got a whole lot more for tomorrow.”
In third place was Hayden’s teammate Mat Mladin. A few hundredth of a second behind him was last round’s winner Foremost Pegram racing’s Larry Pegram aboard his Ducati 1098R. The Yamaha’s of Josh Hayes and Ben Bostrom ended the afternoon fifth and eighth fastest while the Jordan Suzuki’s piloted by Geoff May and Aaron Yates were sixth and seventh.
In the Daytona SportBike class it was Attack Kawasaki’s Roger Lee Hayden who lapped Laguna Seca’s 11-turn road course the fastest. The junior Hayden’s time of 1’28.932 was set late in the session 50-minute session. The time bumped M4 Suzuki’s Martin Cardenas down one position with him ending the day second fastest. Noticeably absent from the top-10 was the Geico Buells of Danny Eslick and Michael Barnes who finished the day 11th and 18th.
Third fastest and only three-tenths of a second behind Cardenas was the Erion Honda CBR600RR of Jake Zemke. Fourth place went to Cardenas teammate Jason DiSalvo followed by Yamaha’s Ben Bostrom.
In the Supersport young gun class it was Russ Wikle who claimed the fastest time on a Suzuki GSX-R600. The Yamaha R6s of Ricky Parker, Tomas Puerta, Garrett Willis and Joey Pascarella rounded out the top five.
