Starting form pole position Danny Eslick took his second straight Daytona SportBike win on a Buell 1125R to sweep the Mid-Ohio race weekend. The Oklahoma native was challenged by Kawasaki's Jamie Hacking and Yamaha’s Josh Herrin at the front, but a last lap charge gave the Buell rider the win.

Buell's Danny Eslick sweept the Daytona SportBike weekend at Mid-Ohio with another victory in Race 2.
After the first lap Hacking led Eslick by a tenth of a second followed closely by Josh Herrin, Martin Cardenas (Suzuki), Roger Hayden (Kawasaki), Tommy Aquino (Yamaha), Chaz Davies (Aprilia), Steve Rapp (Yamaha), Taylor Knapp (Buell), and Michael Barnes (Buell).

Eslick overtook the Kawasaki rider with a Lap 2 time half a second faster than Hacking’s. Meanwhile, Barnes had relinquished tenth to Chris Peris.

The top four began to split away as they tried to keep pace with Eslick’s increasingly fast lap times. Eslick was forced to relinquish the lead to Herrin on Lap 7 as the Yamaha YZF-R6 put in a lap four-tenths of second faster than the Buell front man. On the same lap, Knapp had moved into sixth while Davies dropped to eighth.

By the ninth-lap Eslick had reclaimed the lead. Three laps latter Herrin made a slip while trying to pressure Eslick that droped him to ninth. This allowed Hacking to move up and challenge. Meanwhile, Zemke had passed Peris and DiSalvo to take tenth.

On Lap 14 Hacking took the lead from Eslick, lost it, and then reclaimed it two laps later. Four seconds back Tommy Aquino passed Hayden for fourth; however, Aquino would end up dropping out of the running on lap 21. Cardenas put in his best lap of the race on Lap 17, but could not catch-up with the front-runners.

On the last lap Hacking made an error that caused him nearly two seconds and Eslick powered past for his second win of the season. Fellow Buell rider Taylor Knapp also made a move on a Kawasaki pilot, slipping past Roger Hayden to claim fourth.

Daytona SportBike Mid-Ohio Race 2 Post-Race Quotes

Martin Cardenas - M4 Suzuki - 3rd :
“It was a hard race for me because my confidence wasn’t very good after two races and two crashes. At the Laguna Seca crash, I really don’t know what happened. I wasn’t going any faster than on other laps so I don’t really know what happened there except that I lost the front. That’s all I know. Here (at Mid-Ohio), yesterday, I think I know what happened. I made a tighter line than on all the laps before and I lost the front again, so my confidence wasn’t really good. So, today third was the best I could do. These other guys were a little bit faster than me and I tried to stay with them, but about five laps from the end I made a mistake and I almost crashed. So I decided that third place was good enough for today. My GSX-R600 was working really good, so thanks to M4 Suzuki for giving me such a great bike and to all my sponsors for their support.”

Danny you were my hero on the flat track but quit humiliating yourself in front of real fans, an 1125 against 600cc. sad day in racing.
