Josh Day put in a dominant performance winning Sunday’s SuperSport race at Virginia International Raceway by nearly 10-seconds.
Josh Day continued his dominance in the SuperSport class, designed to showcase young up-and-coming talent, by winning Sunday’s 18-lap race at the Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals held at Virginia International Raceway by almost 10-seconds.
"We've really got good momentum going so far, these past three races have really been good for us," Day said. "I'm so glad we've been up front, running and winning races so far at the end of the season."
At the start of SuperSport race it was pole-sitter Josh Day out in front aboard his Yamaha
YZF-R6 motorcycle. He had opened up nearly a 3-second gap over second place when Leandro Mercado and Cory Rech crashed bringing out the red flag at the end of the second lap.
On the second start, Day was again out in front, this time followed by Garrett Carter, J.D. Beach, Ricky Parker and Cristian Cronin. By mid-point of the race Day was gently easing away of the field with over a 4-second spread between himself and Beach who had moved past Carter to secure third position. Meanwhile Beach and Carter were chasing each other another and were some 20-seconds in front of fourth place Ricky Parker.
With 5 laps to go Day’s gap was 7-seconds and growing, while Carter had managed to move up into second position past Beach. But Beach wasn’t about to give up and would retaliate on the next lap. Beach would manage to hold of Carter finishing 0.064-seconds in front of him.
"Me and Garrett had a great battle," said Beach. "We battled before at Mid-Ohio, so I knew he was good and smooth. With two laps to go, or one lap to go, he got ahead of me. I knew all weekend I've been coming out of the last turn good so I just tried to get a good drive. I ended up getting it and just getting by him."
Parker would finish in fourth followed by Troy Lee Design’s backed rider Joey Pascarella.
