Harley-Davidson Names Keith Wandell New CEO

Wednesday, April 08, 2009
Matthew S. Levatich Named Harley-Davidson Motor Company President and COO James A. McCaslin to Become Executive Vice President for Corporate Product Planning. Enrico D'Onofrio to Assume Senior Post at MV Agusta.

Harley-Davidson CEO Keith Wandell
Meet the new face of Harley-Davidson, President and CEO Keith Wandell.
Harley-Davidson Inc. (NYSE:HOG) has named Keith E. Wandell President and Chief Executive Officer, succeeding James L. Ziemer, who is retiring. Wandell, 59, currently serves as President and Chief Operating Officer of Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE:JCI), a $38 billion global company. Wandell, a 21-year Johnson Controls veteran, starts his new duties at Harley-Davidson May 1.

"Keith Wandell is a seasoned global business leader who brings tremendous energy, passion, and organizational and talent development capability to his job as Harley-Davidson's new chief executive," said Harley-Davidson, Inc. Board Member Barry K. Allen, who serves as the Board's Presiding Director. "His vision and values make him a great fit, and he is absolutely the right person to now lead Harley-Davidson on its exciting journey."

Regarding his appointment, Wandell commented: "Harley-Davidson has a remarkable record of success and limitless possibilities. I am honored and thrilled to join the Harley-Davidson family and to have this opportunity to help it fulfill dreams, create innovative market-leading products, and expand its opportunities worldwide."

The Company also announced the following organizational leadership changes which, according to Allen, will also serve as a catalyst to drive Harley-Davidson's strategies for growth, operational excellence and leadership development going forward:

• Matthew S. Levatich becomes President and Chief Operating Officer of Harley-Davidson Motor Company. Levatich, 44, is currently President and Managing Director of MV Agusta, the Italian motorcycle maker that Harley-Davidson, Inc. acquired last August. While at MV, Levatich spearheaded the restarting of MV's operations. In his 15 years at Harley-Davidson, Levatich has held positions of increasing responsibility in the U.S. and Europe, including Vice President and General Manager of the Company's Parts and Accessories business, and Vice President of Materials Management.

• James A. McCaslin moves to Executive Vice President for Corporate Product Planning, reporting to the CEO. In this newly created position, McCaslin has broad oversight of motorcycle product planning and development processes across Harley-Davidson, Inc. McCaslin, 60, has served as President of the Motor Company for the past eight years.

• Enrico D'Onofrio, 51, assumes the post of Managing Director, MV Agusta. D'Onofrio joined MV Agusta as Corporate General Director earlier in 2009, overseeing all administrative functions including finance and human resources. Previously he held senior management positions at motorcycle maker Ducati, including CFO, and at Proctor & Gamble in Europe.

All three appointments are also effective May 1.

"The appointment of Matt Levatich to the senior leadership position at Harley-Davidson Motor Company recognizes his demonstrated abilities at relationship management and as a strategic thinker and problem solver on the operations side of the business. He will be a strong leader in his expanded role," said Allen. "Matt's predecessor, Jim McCaslin, has done an outstanding job of leading the Motor Company's operations. His unique talents, passion for products and operational excellence, and market knowledge will now be a great asset to drive the organization forward in the critical area of product planning and development. And we also look forward to growth for MV Agusta, under Enrico's leadership."

"Harley-Davidson has a uniquely powerful brand, strong market leadership, and a richness of talented leaders and employees who know this business intimately. Keith's arrival and these other leadership changes make a powerful combination that will advance the great work going on all across the organization to attract new riders, grow our core rider base and expand internationally," Allen said.

"On behalf of the entire Board of Directors, I also want to thank Jim Ziemer for his 40 years of service to Harley-Davidson and wish him well on his upcoming retirement. All of us who have worked with Jim throughout the years have benefited from his leadership, his selfless commitment to the Company, and his contributions to making the brand one of the most admired and successful brands in the world," said Allen.

Dear Mr. Wandell, I am a 40 year old lady, usually someone my age would be sending children off to college and spending time with a spouse. Ten years ago I started having alot of health problems and I had to quit work and go on disability. I have degenerative disc disease and what little disc that I still have are bulging. I also have a compression fracture and suffer from sculiosis as well as pinched nerves. About six years ago I was told that I have congestive heart failure. My husband and I never had children we were going to wait for the right time but when I started having alot of health problems, He said he couldn't handle it and also because I had to qut work he packed his things and left and never said anything. I do get SS disability but that is only 721.00 dollars a month. I cann't afford to have a car and my parents are deceased, So I have no one to help me. I thought maybe you all there at Harley D's might have a used trike that was turned in It dosn't matter what it looks like and I will pay for it but I am only able to make small payments each month. I realize that you all are in business to make money but I would hope that maybe you could see fit to help me to have a way to go to the doctor and to the grocery store. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. My email is tbartif6@gmx.com if you could email me I will get you any info you might need. Thank you! Tiffiney

Cindy Edwards -Mr.Wandell  February 1, 2011 08:32 AM
My name is Cindy and I would love to purchase a Harley for my husband before our 2nd year Anniversary which is, Valentines day. I am not a rich person, and had my identity stolen. Long story short when I meet my husband 5 years ago he had two Harley's, and no children. My husband
took care of me and my 3 teenage children, we struggled financial because my son was diagnosed with an illness. My husband being the wonderful man and greatest step dad,he is sold his Harleys, this is his life, believe me. It tore him up feel so bad because, I know he gave up something he loved to just for me and my children. I want to give back to him, and what better day then our Anniversary that just lands perfect on Valentines day, I want to show him just how much we love him. He deserves to have his freedom of the road back.

After all that being said, Can you personally finance me through your company, or get financing we both don’t have A one credit
but, we are back on our feet and ready to ride. We would like to keep payments as low as possible no more than $300 a month
but, and not spend more than $10.000.

Whenever I find someone to help me out with this, I'm going to publish the story in the newspaper and also on news.

Greatly Appreciated,
Cindy Edwards

bad customer experience at harley davidson in omaha. About December 2010. Called the shop to come get bike because it wouldn't start. They bring it to the shop Over the phone I ask them to give me an estimate. They agreed to give me an estimate. Bike had two batteries. One battery was just in case the other wouldn't start the bike. When the shop got the bike, it started. The estimate work was done and both batteries were tested. However both batteries were under warranty. But come to find out that one of the batteries was thrown away. All without consent from customer. doingright@hotmail.com

Mr. Wandell, I am truly disappointed at the decision to play games with Milwaukee and the UAW. Labor taking hits such as they have without management leading the way is just another example of why Labor needs Unions, without them, your employees and mine, ( I am a stock holder) would be working for sub standard wages while the big cats could sit in their ivory towers and smoke cigars thinking of new ways to beat up on the labor so they could make more money. I am going to not vote and push for NOT retaining any company upper management officials currently sitting in control of the "Company". Fat Cats just looking to screw everyone else at......maybe you could see if India can take over some of the jobs from the lines in Milwaukee, that way you can save a few more $$..fat cats, disgusting that you even ride a Harley................

Good Morning All,
After owning two H.D. motorcycles in past years I was very surprised
that Harley doesn't offer a 103 C.I.motor on there new 2011 fatboy model of the peace officer bike.It wood seem to me that Harley is slow to respond to the wants of the people who buy there products.
Dear Mr. Wandell lets bring a product to the people that they want.
Being the C.E.O. of your company has some tasks that you should consider. After speaking to many retired officers in law enforcement it seems that this is what they want to see. Maybe you can address this matter and take the lead and show that you can meet the demands of the folks who support such a great company.

P.S. A responce is requested to this E-mail.

How is it that you can pay yourself over 6 million for only 8 months of work and expect the hard working men and women to take deep cuts. You and your cronys are ruining a great company. You need to step down. You are not a biker, you have absolutly no concept of Harley heritage, you're just a bean counter. You're a greedy SOB that's looking to cut expenses so you can pay yourself and the rest of the upper management a bigger salary.
Lou Curti -Retired N.Y.P.D. Officer  August 25, 2010 09:27 AM
Dear Mr. Wendell;
I am a little surprised that H.D. doesn't offer the Peace Officer edition of the Fatboy model in an 103 C.I. motor.
After owning 2 H.D. in the years past it is time for me to buy my thrid bike and this is now stopping me from ordering NOW.
I think that if you could asked production and tell them that they should get on this A.S.A.P. that you will sell more bikes.
Please get back to me to your convince.

Thank you
Lou Curti

Mr. Wandell,

I am part of a Make-A-Wish chapter and we are designing our shirts to sell for 2010. Our design is the Harley bar and shield with our Chapter name across the bar. We would like to know if we can have permission to use the logo in this way for our charity. I have left voicemail messages at the trademark and licensing dept. many, many times and also e-mailed a copy of our design for approval but as of yet, I have not received any response.

We are a small chapter, we fulfilled 3 children's wishes last year and hope to do the same or better this year. We sold about 300 shirts last year and we do change our design every year.

Would really appreciate hearing back from you. I would be glad to send you a copy of the design if you would like.
