Harley-Davidson is offering a new Premium Low Shock for its touring line of motorcycles. The nitrogen-charged design is claimed to enhance damping and to provide a plush ride.
Introduced on the CVO Street Glide, the Premium Ride, Hand-Adjustable Low Touring Shocks (P/N 54680-10, $499.95) from
Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories utilize a single-tube, nitrogen-charged design that offers enhanced compression and rebound damping when compared to the air-adjustable shocks that are original equipment on other Harley-Davidson Touring models. The result is a plush, controlled ride with reduced chance of bottoming.
The compression and rebound damping is split between the two shocks – a soft spring and compression on the right side and a stiff spring and rebound on the left – to balance the load of each shock. Larger chambers with 40mm-diameter pistons and 14mm rods allow these shocks to react more quickly to impacts and keep the tires tracking true while minimizing harshness transmitted through the frame. A simple knob behind the left saddlebag allows the rider to conveniently change the spring preload via a hydraulic adjuster.
Premium Ride Low Touring Shocks fit 2009-later Touring models (except the Trike). They do not lower 2009-later Street Glide, Road Glide Custom, or CVO Street Glide.
