The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle is coveted around the world as the only motorcycle that can tackle any terrain, from the African Desert to the Tibetan mountains, and come back for more.
What happens when you combine the treacherous Arctic Ice Road, negative 60-degree temperature, and the superior capability of the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle? The next adventure of Jesse James, of course.

On Sunday, June 14 from 10:00 -11:00 p.m. , ET/PT, Spike TV will telecast the third episode of the new hit series “Jesse James Is A Dead Man,” where James will traverse the infamous Arctic Ice Road from Inuvik to Aklavik, Alaska. This hazardous highway of snow and ice is home to some of the world’s most extreme conditions, including bitter below zero temperatures, piercing wind chills, and the perilous ice road itself that can open at any moment, swallowing a traveler instantly. With virtually no traction on the unprepared ice and not a single gas station for miles for refuge or repairs, at least the BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle could offer some comfort and peace of mind, and not just from the heated handgrips.

“From motorcycle enthusiasts to those who just can’t get enough of Jesse James, this episode will provide viewers a chance to see the extreme capabilities of the BMW R 1200 GS motorcycle, and how it excels in what could be the world’s most inhospitable conditions,” said Roy Oliemuller, communications manager for BMW Motorrad USA.

For this perilous journey, a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle was outfitted to fight the frozen north with a multitude of modifications, including studded tires and custom flame paint in typical Jesse James fashion. The BMW R 1200 GS Adventure motorcycle is coveted around the world as the only motorcycle that can tackle any terrain, from the African Desert to the Tibetan mountains, and come back for more. The GS series of dual sport motorcycles are at the forefront of adventure riding, which is quickly gaining in popularity in the United States due to its promise of fun and freedom both on and off road.

Ten weekly one-hour episodes of “Jesse James Is A Dead Man” are being produced for Spike TV by executive producers Jesse James and Hildie Katibah through his production company, Payupsucker Productions, in conjunction with executive producers John Brenkus and Mickey Stern of BASE Productions (“Sport Science,” “Crime 360”). Kevin Lee also serves as executive producer. Sharon Levy and Tim Duffy are executives in charge of production for Spike TV.

1aretea - Ride to Inuvik  June 19, 2009 03:22 PM
That was a bore to watch! Flames on a BMW, you have got to be kidding. I wanted to see how the bike was out-fitted for the ride and the exhuast, was that the sound of a BMW?
wildpig - maybe the bmw would'nt start  June 17, 2009 05:19 PM

RealRider - I am not a chopper monkey - I know the difference  June 16, 2009 05:51 PM
I recorded the episode in HD on my DVR just to see him sit upright and ride something other than a chopper. I went back to watch it, but turned it off part way through. Here's why: After installing the "race exhaust" they talked about, which was actually an Akrapovic street exhaust, Jesse sat on the bike and waved his elbow in a fake attempt to simulate revving the bike while the over-dramtic producers dubbed in a harley-esque noise. It was an insult to anyone who knows what different engines sound like.
nunyabusiness - the ride north  June 14, 2009 10:59 PM
First off I hate to take a shot at Spike TV & Jesse but I just caught this episode on Spike, they claimed this was the first time anyone attempted a journey like this on bikes. Well I beg to differ, I personally know two true Outlaws that did almost 20 years ago. Their goal was the North Pole! And they attempted it on a hell of lot less extravagant bikes! Plus they went a hell of lot farther then the last town. They obviously didn’t make it all the way but they did make it well out of Canada and back. Their story was an unbelievable tail of extreme hardship none like I’ve ever heard before or since. But my hat's off to ya Jesse, great effort.
larry lynch - jesse james goes ridin north on a bmw  June 13, 2009 05:03 AM
jesse james best hope bmw has fixed the antenna ring failure before he leaves LA. OH-- DID I MENTION BMW'S INFAMOUS SUDDEN BATTERY DEATH SYNDROME? BETTER REPLACE THAT TO. HE MAY WANNA KEEP HIS FINGERS CROSSED ON THE FINAL DRIVE- SEEMS THERE'S A LIL ISSUE WITH THAT AS WELL.
Darren - Inuvik & Aklavik are not in Alaska.  June 11, 2009 09:49 PM
Your article mentions the "ice road from Inuvik to Aklavik, Alaska." Inuvik and Aklavik are not in Alaska. Alaska is a state, part of the United States of America. Inuvik and and Aklavik are in the country of Canada. Canada has 10 provinces and three "territories." They are Yukon Territory,North West Territories and Nunavut. Both Aklavik and Inuvik are in the North West Territories.
MTGR - What? On a BMW?  June 11, 2009 09:18 AM
So what happened to James' stance that Harleys, particularly customs, are the only true Motorcycles? I guess when reliability equals staying alive the truth comes out.
