The 2013 BMW R1200GS is expected to help the German marque continue recording high sales numbers.
Motorrad continued to expand sales around the world through November 2012, marking yet another record month for the German marque, earning a 10.4% increase from November 2011 with 6,749 units sold. Husqvarna
lagged a bit as compared to the figures in 2011, notching a 2.2% decline with 1,155 units sold.
Despite the deficit in November, Husqvarna remained well above the year-to-date mark as compared to the same period in 2011. From January through November 30, 2012, Husqvarna supplied 9,484 units, a 19.2% improvement on sales in the previous year. BMW Motorrad also enjoyed positive growth, delivering 100,289 motorcycles and maxi scooters through November 30th, a gain of 0.2% from the 100,054 units delivered to customers up to that point in 2011. While consistent success in the United States helped to bolster both brands’ numbers, successes in Germany, Latin America and Asia also helped significantly.

The Head of Sales and Marketing for BMW Motorrad, Heiner Faust, commented on the November 2012 sales numbers in a recent BMW press release.
“In spite of a great deal of headwind coming from some European markets, we have been able to increase sales significantly compared to November of last year. Good sales in Germany, Latin America and Asia are responsible for the considerable rise in sales. Looking at the seven largest individual markets, BMW has been able to maintain market leadership in Germany, Spain and Italy in the 500-plus cubic capacity segment relative for BMW Motorrad. Overall we are in third position in these seven markets as of November. We are well on track especially in view of the coming R 1200 GS model change which had already been announced, this model accounting for approximately 17% of sales volume alone. For December we are also expecting increased sales as compared to December 2011. We will then achieve our aim of finishing the 2012 motorcycle season with a new sales record.”
In the US, BMW Motorrad performed significantly better than in 2011, both in the monthly and year-to-date figures. Sales shot up to 777 units in November 2012, a 43.6% increase on sales for the same month in 2011, helping the brand maintain YTD figures 15.1% above the mark set at the same time last year. Some of the best performing models in the states were the S1000RR
(129 units sold) and the F800GS
(60 units sold) as well as the newly introduced BMW maxi scooters, which had combined sales of 163 units for the month.
