Ducati Reveals Rossi-Themed Monsters

Thursday, March 3, 2011
Ducati has started cashing in on its biggest off-season acquisition, Valentino Rossi. The Italian firm has revealed the first, in what figures to be many, Ducati models branded by The Doctor. The Monster line is first to get the Rossi treatment, and it will be offered in two new color schemes fashioned after the company’s factory MotoGP racing duo of Rossi and American Nicky Hayden.

Ducati starts cashing in on its biggest off-season acquisition, revealing the first Ducati models to be branded by The Doctor, Valentino Rossi.

The two new colorways will make their official public debut at the upcoming “Ducati MotoGP Night” in Bologna. The GP-themed bikes feature the riding numbers of both Grand Prix champions - 46 for Rossi and 69 for The Kentucky Kid. The Rossi-inspired Monster includes day-glo yellow accents and “The Doctor” logo stamped onto the standard issue bikini fairing.

The GP schemes are extensions of Ducati’s Monster Art project, which has included graphic alterations such as the seven “Logomania” options already available. Ducati PR (below) states the new GP options will be accessory options for all five existing models in the Monster line (696, 796, 1100, 1100S & 1100EVO) and available as original colors on new Monsters in participating countries (UPDATE: Ducati press reps confirm either the body kits or whole bikes will be available in the U.S.).

As final preparations for the massive “Ducati MotoGP Night” are made ready for the city-centre event on the evening of Friday, 4 March, Ducati reveal two new Monster Art colour schemes dedicated to Nicky Hayden and Valentino Rossi.

Starting from early evening, the huge event promises a packed program of entertainment with a concert and star-studded line-up of VIPs joining in the Ducati party until the riders appear on stage with the Desmosedici GP11 at 9pm. The celebration, in Bologna’s Piazza Maggiore, is intended to be a passionate send-off to the Ducati Marlboro Team just prior to their first race of the year in Qatar later this month, and as the two factory riders appear on stage to greet an expected 30,000 fans, the new Monster Art GP Replica schemes will also be presented.

First introduced in 2009, the innovative Monster Art project offered an additional range of colours to the standard factory options with a collection called “Colour Therapy”, while in 2010 the introduction of the “Logomania” collection celebrated 50 years of historic Ducati logo styles.

Changing the colour and character of any model in the Monster line-up in just 10 minutes is the genius of the Monster Art program, and a feature that passionately supports the Monster culture of customisation. Consisting of tank panels, micro-bikini fairing, single-seat cover and front mudguard, the kits have now become a modern canvas in the world of motorcycle art and a unique method of Monster personalisation.

Fast-forward to 2011, the pre-season “Ducati MotoGP Night” and the roll-out of two new GP Replica Monster Art schemes dedicated to factory riders, Nicky “The Kentucky Kid” Hayden and Valentino “The Doctor” Rossi. The new kits have been inspired by the livery of the Desmosedici GP11, which will power both riders this year, with a white design presented on a background of red. Each GP Replica scheme is decorated with the riders’ respective logos and further personalised with Rossi’s signature flash of fluorescent yellow and famous racing number “46” and Hayden’s starred number “69”.

Both colour schemes are available as suitable accessories for the 696, 796, 1100 and 1100 S Monsters as well as the brand new Monster 1100EVO and will be available as original colours on new Ducati Monsters in participating countries.

I knew the replicas would be coming as soon as I saw Rossi's new red/flouresent color scheme. Icon's new flouresent gear would look sick with this monster!
