To Douglas, my son has a 2009 R1 and 2 weeks ago he was going down the highway at 50mph just after a rain storm and his rear tire locked up as well! The rear of the bike spun out and knocked him off sending him into the middle of the highway! luckily he was not hurt and someone stopped to help him pick his bike up and get it off the highway. After that it wouldn't start. Had to have it towed and so far the damage is at $5300 and that is without finding out what is wrong with the reason it won't start! It only has 13,000 miles on it. I think there is a manufacture defect! The Yamaha place said they looked inside the engine (cam chain) area and everything inside is shredded into little pieces. They are trying to say it didn't have oil, but he just had the oil changed!

They should have tried the European version of the bike. If They think it's lacking in top end this maybe because it was restricted for America. Maybe the British, Aussie, Scottish, Spanish are right not this magazine. I am not saying that they are not right but in Europe the R1 version has more BHP.

Of all the tests of this new R-1, MOTORCYCLE-USA is the most honest! I have read British, Aussie, Scottish, Spanish, and all the other American magazine reviews. That's it, I'm convinced, I am suscribing to their magazine today. It's rare you get an honest unbiased review of a motorcycle.

Douglas LaPlant - Any problems with rear wheel lockup??  August 9, 2009 12:59 AM
I need to ask,has yamaha mentioned anything about a rear wheel lockup on it's 2009 yamaha 600 Fz6r ?? My girlfriends son just had a rear wheel lockup going only 35mph on a smooth rd.Her son was just about to pull into his driveway when his rear wheel locked up on him and bike went down braking his right wrist and anckle. He had to have surgery on both to correct the damage.I wonder if yamaha has had a recall on it's bike for a rear lock-up of any kind ?? This bike was just bought from dealer on june 10,2009.I don't know who to ask so that is why I am asking you guy's.Whay in the world could have made this happen to a new bike?? It has never been dropped or anything before this. The man is 31 years old and freaked out when this happened to him in front of his house. To be just driving at 30 to 35 mph and ready to turn into his driveway lets you know he wasn't doing anything crazy. But to have the rear end lock-up and down him is beyond belief.Something had to lock-up the rear wheel like that?? What else could do it except something in the trans or motor that broke and locked up the rear wheel so that it couldn't turn at all, froze tight.I can only think that a spline or ring washer something froze the shaft so wheel locked?? Please give me any insight on this matter. Was their a recall on anything like this happen before?? Help,Help,Please... Here is my email eagle01255@aol.com Please get back to me on this.... THANK YOU--D.LaPlant, august 8,2009
