The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a recall notice for certain 2013 model year Kawasaki
EX300BDFAL (Ninja 300 ABS) motorcycles due to a potential issue with the Anti-Lock Brake System. According to a report submitted to the NHTSA by Kawasaki Motors Corp, U.S.A., “during the manufacturing process of the ABS pump, dust particles may have contaminated the component creating a potential for interference with the motorcycle’s anti-lock function. Under certain braking conditions, the loss of the ABS function may be unexpected which may contribute to an increased risk of crash.”
The recall pertains to units produced from August 16,2012 through April 2, 2013, and there are an estimated 1083 units affected. Kawasaki will notify dealers of the issue and then send owner notification letters by mail to all owners listed in KMC’s warranty registration data. Dealers will inspect and replace affected ABS pumps as necessary.
