On the new “bike” front,
Piaggio have launched the MP3 LT, a machine with two banking wheels at the front and a single driven wheel at the rear. Nothing new really as such machines (including Piaggio’s prior MP3s) are becoming commonplace with several motorcycle/scooter manufacturers trying to woo people who do not like the instability of single-tracked vehicles and the risk of falling off.
Originally announced at the 2008 Intermot show in Cologne, what is new is that the 400cc MP3 LT is classed as a car thanks to the front wheels being moved 45mm further apart to give 465mm between them and has a footbrake fitted. This makes it a three-wheeled car as far as European legislation is concerned, so no crash helmet is needed.
