Cheap Thrills with the Honda CBR250R
Friday, November 2, 2012
Liter-class Superbikes sure are fun to look at and ride, if you’ve got the money that is... But Honda’s CBR250R sportbike proves thrills don’t always need to set you back tens of thousands of dollars. Just ask our friend, film maker and motorcycling enthusiast, John Hensley (see John Hensley's "Chronicles of a Club Racer"
) who is racing in Las Vegas this weekend with the WERA motorcycle racing club:
“I normally race a middleweight, which while certainly fun, can at times get bogged down in the nebulous world of set-up and frustration, says Hensley (race no. 829). "Having spent a day on this little 250, I can say with certainty, I have not smiled this much at a racetrack in a while. I feel like a door has been opened, and I’m strongly gravitating toward the idea of 250 racing next season as my weekend hobby.”
Some of the credit for Hensley’s perma-grin goes to Camarillo, California-based motorcycle tuner, Jett Tuning
. In a matter of a couple days, it transformed the same $4199 bike you can buy at your local Honda
dealer into a full-on racer at an up-charge of only $2000, including labor, bodywork and paint. Add a set of Pirelli race tires and some U4.4 VP Racing Fuel and you’re ready to smile... and race.
