Sportbikes for Life

Suzuki's 2009 GSX-R1000 sportbike: Built to shred.
Like most things in life you get use to the way something feels. Motorcycling is of course no different, thus after spending extended time with a particular type of motorcycle you expect certain things. The way it turns and handles; the manner in which the engines’ power feels; its brakes and suspension—you get the point. So after spending a good amount of my days last week mobbing around the Rockies on Harley-Davidson motorcycles I became pretty accustom to the way they ride.

Over the weekend I took some time off from street motorcycling; yesterday being the first time I rode a bike since last week’s Colorado excursion. Since I had my fill of cruising I opted to ride something more shall we say, performance oriented, i.e. the 2009 Suzuki GSX-R1000.

And it’s truly amazing the amount of performance that Japanese motorcycle manufactures inject these bikes with. While cruising around on a Harley definitely has its time and place, ripping around on a 155 horsepower sportbike is just too good to be true. Every time I ride this type of bike I wonder how they’re still legal considering how insanely powerful and fun they are to ride on public roads.

Equally as astonishing is how easy these new generation motorcycles are to operate. That is if you have the sense to receive the proper training and learn how to ride them correctly. When you do, in a way, they are pretty safe machines. Think about it: You have the power to motor away from a potential incident. Contrarily when you need to stop you have sports car like braking capabilities. Plus these machines turn on a dime yet their chassis offer a great deal of stability.

While all types of motorcycles are enjoyable to ride, there’s no doubt in my mind that sportbikes are a cut above the rest offering the most amount of exhilaration. Don’t believe me? Just try one and you’ll be hooked.

I've always found that one of the most beautiful things about the motorcycle is the variety of forms it can come in. There is a type of motorcycle for almost every condition, and while non-motorcyclists might think having or enjoying more than one kind if a waste of time or money, we know that each kind of motorcycle fills a niche and that going from one to the other actually makes you enjoy the differences of each even more. Be it street/dirt, cruiser/sport, enduro/mx, 2-stroke/4-stroke etc etc. you're lucky you get to work at a place that allows you to ride so many types of machines!

Man you said it!!! I enjoy cruising from time to time. If I could afford it, I'd definatly have one of each. But if I gotta pick one, Sportbikes all day!!!!!!!!!!

Right On! Right On! Right On! I Have said for years the same thing. Sure there are other types of bikes to ride but there is nothing but sportbikes for me! I'm 61 years old and have told my wife when I can't throw a leg over a sportbike take me out back and shoot me! I will never settle for a sedate cruise around the neighborhood. Give me all the tire shredding horsepower, wheelies, stoppies, and knee on the ground handling only a sportbike can provide!
