Motorcycle-USA puts today's sportbike rubber to the test.
What’s up fellow two-wheelers? Have you ever wondered type of tires you should purchase for yours sportbike? I sure have. And in a few weeks both of us will know the answer. Not only that, we’ll discover an assortment of pertinent information that will help make you better equipped the next time you need to drop down cash for a new set of tires.
I just concluded the racetrack portion of Motorcycle-USA’s first-ever street bike motorcycle tire comparison test. Over last two days, I ran through 10 types of tires from six manufacturers. Day 1 was spent, lapping around the tight, technical and bumpy 1.8-miles Streets course. The second day was spent on the high-speed and extra abrasive surface of the 2.5-mile main road course. I put in an excess of 100 laps in 100-plus degree desert heat, burning through 25-gallons of fuel and piles of Shift knee sliders.
We’ve weighed and measured all of the tires and had a data logging system from
Kinelogix fitted on our 2009
Honda CBR1000RR test motorcycle, so every second I was out on track the computer was watching. Rest assured this is the mother of all street bike motorcycle tire tests. Stay tuned as we find out which rubber is the best!
