Indianapolis MotoGP Race Day Notes

It would take a crowd of 200,000-plus to make the Brickyard look full.
It’s race day here at the Brickyard and the weather couldn’t be better here in Indianapolis. Right now its sunny with a temperature in the high 60s and best of all there is zero chance of rain. Road racing fans are steadily funneling into Indianapolis Motor Speedways' gargantuan expanse, but this place is so big that it would take a full-on 200,000-plus Spanish crowd to actually start making this place look kind of full.
On the way into the track it’s hard not to notice the ridiculously heavy police presence. I thought Daytona Bike Week was crazy, but Florida has nothing on Indianapolis when it comes to sheer numbers of the blue and white, so if you’re coming into the track make sure to take it slow.
Right now the 125cc boys just took to the track for their 23-lap race. Right after that it’s the 250cc guys, which will be the last time these types of machines circulate in America as the class becomes 600cc 4-strokes next year. Later on 1993 500cc champ Kevin Schwantz will take put in some laps on his championship winning Suzuki RGV500 bike, then it’s the eight-hun-skis of MotoGP starting at 3:00 p.m. sharp.
