Bell Helmets Photochromatic Transitions Visor

The ZX-10R offers excellent handling. It turns in sharp its stable at lean and it drives off the corner well.
Bell Helmets Transitions Photochromatic face shield automatically adjusts to outdoor light so you can see comfortably day or night.
Howdy all, I just wanted to share one of my favorite pieces of street bike motorcycling gear right now: Bell Helmets Transitions Photochromatic face shield for the Bell Star series of motorcycle helmets. This $119.95 face shield automatically adjusts to outdoor light so you can always see day or night.

During the day the shield immediately darkens according to the intensity/brightness of the sun. This reduces glare and allows you to see comfortably without having to squint or strain your eyes. As day turns to night the shield’s tint seamlessly transitions and becomes more transparent for clear night vision.

This visor is perfect for those who commute with their bike or for the rides that start during the day and go into the night. Other benefits are that it blocks a majority of harmful UV-rays and has an anti-fog coating for use in cool, wet weather. If you have a Bell Star helmet and don’t want to worry about swapping your visor based on the time of day I highly recommend trying this visor, you won’t be disappointed.

So much has changed since the shield you tried, Aaron. The biggest is that Transitions Optical is behind this shield. Their technology is the best in the industry and like SMR pointed out - they've been developing this technology for decades for other Rx glasses and sunglasses. This shield is a great breakthrough in photochromic visors.

I suspect that this will hold up better as it's pretty different than other photochromatic shields. It's from Transitions, the same company that makes Rx eyeglass lenses and does Oakley's photochromatic lenses. They should know how to do this pretty well.

Not so fast Adam,
Give it a year and see how the photochromatic effect hold up. I had one of these visors on a helmet a couple of years ago and it was great, at first. But by the end of the first riding season it started looking more purple than grey, then it stopped getting dark altogether. Please keep us updated through out the year, if you continue to use this helmet and visor, and let us know if it continues to work. And take care of your shoulder.
