Racing Mammoth with Kawasaki's KX450F

After an afternoon of testing and racing at REM Motocross, MotoUSA is ready to race Mammoth this weekend with its superstock 2010 Kawasaki KX450F.
In preparation for this weekend’s annual Mammoth Motocross race in northern California, MotoUSA did some testing during a REM Motocross race at Glen Helen Raceway on Saturday. We were working on getting our 2010 Kawasaki KX450F
dialed-in again after freshening up some of the wear and tear parts.
With 50-plus hours on the bike we felt like the performance of the suspension had degraded so we dropped off the fork and shock with the suspension specialists at RG3
. In addition to changing the fluids, seals and recharging the nitrogen in the shock, they reworked the valving in an effort to improve overall suspension performance.
Brake pads are a wear and tear item that often needs replacement. In fact we already had to replace the rear brake pads once and now the front pads were down to the backing plate. Rather than installing another set of OE pads we wanted to see if Ferodo’s latest SinterGrip off-road brake pads would improve braking performance so we fitted a pair on both ends.
Next to the brake pads, the chain and sprockets are a component that often needs replacement on a motocross bike. So we put on a pair of Renthal sprockets in stock 13/50 sizes and a Renthal R1 Works gold chain
Although the stock hand grips that come on ’10 Kawasaki KXs last forever they are rock-hard and prone to giving our hands blisters. So we swapped them out for a set of dual compound Renthal grips. Lastly, the packing inside the muffler was getting excessively loud so we traded it for FMF’s reasonably priced Factory 4.1 slip-on muffler
. Other finishing touches were a set of special Mammoth number backgrounds from Dirt Digits
With our KX450F fresh, set-up, and ready-to-race we’re making the trek north toward Mammoth to compete in Saturday’s and Sunday’s races. Make sure to check back this weekend to find out how we did!
