Friday Morning Notes from Laguna Seca
Friday, July 23, 2010
Cool and foggy Friday morning at Laguna Seca.
It’s foggy and cool here at Laguna for the kick-off of this weekend’s Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix race. Despite the conditions practice still started for The Monterey Challenge, a street bike race that is open to any club racer for an entry fee.
Today’s schedule of events on track will consist of practice in all racing classes including electric bikes, MotoGP and the AMA Support classes. After the bikes stop running around track the circuit will be open for a Ducati Track Walk so racing fans can get a more intimate view of the racetrack.
Many of the MotoGP teams will be dressed in special colors this weekend. The Fiat Yamaha squad has a cool white/black livery to promote the impending release of a new Fiat car to the U.S. market. The Monster Tech 3 team will also be sporting special Texas livery for the race on Sunday.
Yesterday, I saw V. Rossi 46 hobbling in the paddock and I was surprised at his overall mobility. Sure he isn’t walking perfectly yet but he was getting around under his own power without the use of any crutch or cane. A track insider said that he had spent extensive time in a hyperbaric chamber to aid in healing. Looks like it worked.
