Superbike Smackdown VIII Track Commences
Saturday, March 5, 2011
Attention sportbike enthusiasts, we’ve just begun our annual Superbike Smackdown liter-class sportbike comparison as outlined in the Superbike Smackdown VIII Preview
. Similarly to the last couple of year’s we’re going to be running a separate two-part tests focused around riding at the racetrack and public roads to find out how each of the bikes rates amongst one another.
Basically the cast of this year’s shootout is the same as last year’s test with the exception of Aprilia who chose not to compete because it doesn’t have any ’11 machinery available yet. We even offered to test the up-spec ’10 RSV4 Factory model as opposed to the more affordable R model we tested last year but still no dice.
For the track portion of the test, we’ve spent the last two days at Southern California’s newest road course, Chuckwalla Valley Raceway, and will continue to ride over the weekend with SoCal Trackdays. We also enlisted the assistance of AMA road racer Steve Rapp... and as I type this, Rapp just did a high-speed flyby over the track announcing his arrival today! How rad is that? You can actually land your plane right here at Chuckwalla.
While the circuit has proven to be a bit tight for 1000s it’s a refreshing change from our usual venues and may shake up the order based on the results of last year’s 2010 Superbike Smackdown VII Track
comparison. That’s it for now…time to strap on my Shoei lid and pin it! Keep your eyes out for the results on Monday, March 28.
