Yamaha Recalls 54000 YZF-R6 Motorcycles

2010 Yamaha YZF-R6 in Stage 1 form modded and ready of battle.
Yamaha is recalling 54,000 R6s due to the position of the front reflector on the base of each fork leg being in the wrong position.
The NHTSA announced today that Yamaha would be recalling 54,000 YZF-R6s due to the front reflector being in the wrong position.

The reports states that the “motorcycle’s front side reflector was not placed at the proper height which fails to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard No. 108: Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment.”

The NHTSA says that the visibility of the motorcycle is decreased, “possibly increasing the risk of a crash,” and as a result Yamaha is now fixing all 54,000 machines at no cost to the owner.

Yamaha has released recall information to its dealers and owners of the affected motorcycles, which were produced from August 2005 to March 2010. The recall is expected to begin August 11th.

More information can be obtained by calling Yamaha at 1-800-962-7926 or the NHTSA’s safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236. The NHTSA is also accessible online: www.safercar.gov

Can't see why you guys would blame the government for this. There are standards for these types of things, and being the large company it is, Yamaha should know these things. Besides, how often are their recalls for safety defects? Daily? How often have you seen Yamaha or any of the other big 4 have a recall? Very rarely...
Nick -Coulnd't they just mail reflectors to owners?  August 10, 2010 10:31 AM
Send the owners a little stick-on reflector in the mail and an illustration showing where it should go.

Corporate America is out of control. Stupid Yamaha couldn't even measure a reflector? Imagine how screwed up the engine is. Vote Monster Raving Looney Party this fall

That sounds deadly! Hopefully, this won't take the dealer more than 3 hours to relocate the reflector. The NHSTA needs to get a clue on this one.
