2013 Ducati 1199 Panigale RS13 First Look

Tuesday, October 02, 2012

Claudio Domenicali, General Manager Ducati Motor Holding, stands with the Ducati Superbike 1199 Panigale RS13.
At Germany’s Intermot motorcycle show Ducati released its racing-spec Panigale 1199 RS13. Engineered specifically for World Superbike competition, this race bike will be available exclusively for racers looking to contest the championship aboard a Ducati.

The RS13 replaces the aging 1198 Superbike that will retire after this weekend’s World Superbike season finale in France. It wears full carbon fiber body work with an aluminum gas tank. Since it’s race-only, it’s devoid of standard road going equipment including head and tail lights. The suspension components are also of a much higher spec with a gas-charged Ohlins fork adorning the front and a TTX-style Ohlins shock at the back. There’s also an Ohlins steering damper mounted horizontally above the billet aluminum top clamp. The triangular pivot that joins the frame, shock and swingarm also appears to be a ‘works’ piece.

Many of the front braking components, including the rotors and master cylinder appear to be pulled straight from Ducati’s secretive Corse race shop. Also of note is the fitment of billet aluminum foot controls and a full Termignoni race pipe as tested in the 2012 Ducati 1199 Panigale S Track Comparison. No word on the state of engine tune, but expect a significant power increase over stock. (See the horsepower and torque figures of a stock bike as measured on our in-house dyno here). Pricing and availability has yet to be announced.
