2014 Honda CRF125F First Look

Tuesday, July 9, 2013
Honda has introduced an all-new model to its 2014 off-road lineup in the 2014 CRF125F. Two versions of a new CRF125F will replace the CRF80F and CRF100F in Honda’s entry-level off-road line-up. The new CRF125F and CRF125F Big Wheel follow the trend set in 2013 when Honda replaced its CRF70F with the CRF110F.

Both CRF models source a 125cc four-stroke Single that’s claimed to be “tuned for loads of low-end grunt plus plenty of pull through the powerband,” according to Honda PR. Each comes with a four-speed transmission, new electric starter, upgraded chassis and suspension components and updated styling which mimics the larger CRF motocross bikes.

The CRF125F is designed to replace the 80F and retains a seat height of 28.9 inches to accommodate smaller riders. Much is changed though, including a new front 220mm hydraulic disc brake instead of the 80F’s drum set-up, a claimed 29 pound increase in weight, a 31mm telescopic fork instead of the previously used 27mm Showa fork and the obvious gains in power thanks to the larger engine.

The CRF125F Big Wheel follows the same pattern in replacing the CRF100F as both bikes have a 30.9 inch seat height. The Big Wheel also comes with the same updated front disc brake, increased weight (a 24 pound gain over the 100F), and updated suspension.

The 125F is equipped with a 17-inch front tire and 14-inch rear while the Big Wheel has a 19-inch front and 16-inch rear. Ground clearance on the Big Wheel is 10.4 inches while on the 125F it’s measured at 8.5 inches. Beyond that the differences between the two machines are slight, providing riders of different ages/sizes nearly identical performance characteristics on machines sized to suit their needs.

The CRF125F has an MSRP of $2799 while the CRF125 Big Wheel is listed at $3199 and both are expected to hit dealers in September 2013.
