2015 Honda CB300F First Look

Thursday, July 10, 2014
American Honda reveals another all-new model addition to its 2015 lineup with the introduction of the CB300F. A naked standard version of the forthcoming CBR300R, the CB300F is slated for US dealers this fall sporting a $3999 MSRP.

The new 300 models will share the same 286cc liquid-cooled Single. The new engine features a 37cc increase in displacement from the 249cc Single that powers the Honda’s popular entry-level CBR250R. The extra cubes are gained via an 8mm longer stroke, now 63mm.

The CB300F’s spec list is virtually identical to its R sibling including a matching 30.7-inch seat height as well as wheelbase, rake and trail measurements. The biggest discrepancy is the 300F’s 348 pound claimed curb weight, a full nine pounds less than the fully-faired R. The naked bike’s MSRP also undercuts the R model by $400.

The most obvious change between the two designs is the F model’s naked aesthetic. Shorn of the R’s full fairing and windscreen, the F takes its cues from the similar styling divergence found in the CB500 models.

Honda press materials don’t specify any other changes at this time, but it seems the F may also follow the lead of the 500F with subtle ergonomic changes. The 300F model sports a taller handlebar mount, as opposed to the R’s lower-placed clip-ons (the 500F handlebar included risers). In the CB500F this slight revision yielded a more comfortable upright stance, and neutral handling (read more in the 2013 Honda CB500F First Ride).

The most natural sales rival for the new Honda CB300F would seem to be Suzuki's GW250. Both retail for $3999 and are the only naked offerings in the once-barren, now-robust entry-level market.
