2011 M109R
Suzuki's 2011 line of cruiser motorcycles includes its torque-laden power cruiser, the M109R, with its new instrument cluster that is now tucked inside the headlight cowl instead of mounted on the handlebars.

While the arrival of the GSX1250FA to U.S. shores and the redesigned GSX-R600 and 750 grabbed most of the headlines at Suzuki’s recent dealer show in Las Vegas, it also introduced its 2011 line of cruiser motorcycles. While Suzuki PR touts “five new models in the cruiser category,” all five are carryovers from the pre-existing line. Fortunately, its arm-stretching, testosterone-laden power cruiser, the M109R made the cut for 2011 and will be offered in a base and Limited Edition model. One member of the C50 class is back, the C50T, giving the Japanese marque a classic-styled cruiser decked out for touring. It also addressed the entry-level and commuter classes by bringing back two lower displacement models, the 650cc S40 and the single-cylinder TU250. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the key features and components of each.

2011 Suzuki Boulevard M109R –

The M109R is all about the power. Big power. The four-stroke, 54-degree V-Twin with dual overhead cams puts out 1783cc of the good stuff. With a mondo 112mm bore and 90.5mm stroke, the 764-pound beast is not for the faint of heart. Suzuki’s Dual Throttle Valve system with 56mm throttle bodies keeps the juice flowing to the potent powerplant while a five-speed constant mesh transmission keeps the shaft-driven, 240mm rear wheel rolling right along.

As far as new innovations on the 2011 M109R, changes are strictly cosmetic. According to Suzuki PR peeps, “The M109R features an instrument cluster with a digital tachometer and LED indicator light, a newly included gear position indicator, and it is now relocated from the handlebars to the top of the headlight cowl. In addition the M109R will be available in Candy Indy Blue. MSRP $14,099

2011 Suzuki Boulevard M109R Limited Edition –

2011 M109R LE
The 2011 Suzuki M109R Limited Edition has a sporty racing stripe, custom gauges and taillight and a slightly different saddle than the standard M109R. 2011 C50T
The 2011 C50T gets its touring credentials from an adustable windshield, leather saddlebags, floorboards and a removable passenger seat with backrest.
2011 S40
The 2011 Suzuki Boulevard S40.
The M109R Limited Edition features the same tweaks as the standard M109R and gets a sporty racing stripe running the length of the bike, custom gauges and taillight, and a slightly different seat. It also comes in a new hue Suzuki calls Glass Sparkle Black/Candy Max Orange finish. MSRP $14,499

2011 Boulevard C50T –

The C50T is powered by an 805cc, single overhead cam 45-degree V-Twin mated to a wide-ratio five-speed transmission. Spoke wheels, white-wall tires, big fenders, studded leather seats and a tank-mounted console give it classic cruiser appeal. Floorboards, a full-length, height-adjustable windshield, leather saddlebags and a removable passenger seat with backrest give it touring credentials. If Suzuki’s spec sheet reads correct, the 2011 C50T weighs 40 pounds less than the 2009 model, as the claimed curb weight drops from 651 to 611 pounds. MSRP $9,399

2011 Boulevard S40 -

With its tear-drop shaped tank, one-piece saddle, and shorty fenders, the styling cues of the 2011 S40 pay homage to the Universal Japanese Motorcycles of old. It is powered by a 652cc, four-stroke, single cylinder engine with an overhead cam. The S40 gets belt drive to go along with its five-speed constant mesh transmission. A 27.6-inch seat height and a 381-pound curb weight give it entry-level attributes. The S40 is offered in two new color schemes for 2011: Pearl Mirage White/Metallic Veil Silver and Metallic Fox Orange/Glass Sparkle Black. MSRP $5,099

2011 TU250–
2011 TU250X
Suzuki's 2011 TU250, with its single-cylinder engine and light weight, is a viable commuter or beginner bike.

Suzuki’s little standard returns for 2011. The four-stroke, air-cooled single is fuel-injected and weighs a whopping 326 pounds. Its muffler is environmentally friendly with its catalytic converter and oxygen feedback system. The 2011 TU250 utilizes a single disc with a dual-piston caliper up front while a drum is responsible for stopping duties out back. Chrome-plated spoke wheels and chrome-plated trim on its headlight case, speedo cover, tail lamp housing, front suspension outer tube and polished crank side case dress it up nicely. MSRP $3,999

Where are the new M-50's?
michael -of Sydney, Australia  December 17, 2010 01:29 AM
The S40 has been for about 20 years. Hardly anything has changed. Surely a cafe racer or a retro single a la Royal Enfield would increase market share. It needs a makeover. As for the 109, it is ugly and bulky. Don't care how good the motor is. It is FUGLY. And having owned a VL1500, the finish is poor with plastic chrome instead of metal.

can you get a m109r with a six speed transmission

I've always wanted to see someone take that 650 single and put it in a sporty chassis a la Velocette or Matchless. Maby I can find a wrecked one and do some experimenting. Ive got a 74 Honda CBR 500 rolling frame

Well untill the competition steps up a total revise would seem unneccesary. A great deal of R&D must have been spent on the original so Suzuki prob just dont see fit for a remodel in the current global economic situation. The changes do seem a little lame albeit the original was quite a statement to start off with.

I suppose the changes are sufficient to differentiate from the 2006 to 2010 models but at least not de value them. So I say its fresh air and thats all good for all

Oh my god these things have been around forever. Come on Suzuki are you kidding me.
Craig -TRE  October 15, 2010 10:53 PM
I wonder how that gear position indicator is going to function if a TRE is installed? I know that my ECU thinks the bike is permanently in fourth gear
Jim -Upgrade '06 instruments  October 15, 2010 07:38 AM
Anyone know how much modification is necessary to replace original instrumentation on a 2006 M109R with the 2011 set up?
Matt -2011 line  October 15, 2010 07:22 AM
I noticed there are only 3 cruiser bikes showing up on the 2011 line up on the Suzuki site. Any one know if they are dropping any models next year?
nick -209nick  October 14, 2010 04:47 PM
the s40 has a good engine but a 6 footer is too tall at saddle, make a tu650 using that engine. would be great.
Shaitan -Like the instrumentation  October 14, 2010 02:48 PM
Not that'll be riding a cruiser anytime soon (oh wait, I do occasionally ride an old Volusia 800 when mine bike's in the shop), but the new M109R instrumentation looks slick.
irksome -wow, Mike?  October 14, 2010 02:39 PM
Better a Suzuki than one of those anachronistic, archaic dinosaurs made by the marketing firm called HD. Especially now that they've hired all those "casual workers", screwed the state of Wisconsin, f**ked over the union and hired the blue jean guy to their board.

Makes you just want to run to the suzi dealer for some 2011 brochures,....doesn't it?
