The fifth round of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship presented a challenging, jump-filled layout for the world's best riders at Thunder Valley MX Park. Looking to secure his best overall finish of the young season, MotoConcepts Yamaha's Tommy Hahn
overcame adversity in the opening moto of the 450 Class to claim this week's Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award.
Tommy Hahn at Thunder Valley for the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship and grabbed the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award.
Hahn experienced misfortune out of the gate in Moto 1 at Thunder Valley, and started his day in 36th place at the end of the opening lap. Over the next fifteen laps, Hahn went on a tear, working his way through a talented field of 450 Class riders on a rough track that kept riders on alert throughout the race. At the end of 35 grueling minutes, Hahn had fought his way into 11th, passing 25 riders en route to the most impressive moto effort of the day.
In Moto 2, Hahn used the motivation of his aspiring first moto ride to put himself in better position off the start. After battling with the likes of Andrew Short
, Davi Millsaps and Justin Brayton
, Hahn posted a fifth-place finish in the final moto, to end the day sixth overall. Not only was Hahn the highest-finishing Yamaha in the field, he also garnered his best result of the season.
Hahn will be presented with the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award at this Saturday's pre-race riders meeting prior to the Rockstar Energy RedBud National, providing well-deserved recognition for his efforts in front of his peers.
