The Mahindra brand conjures up the notion of farm tractors for most Americans, but the Indian conglomerate has branched out into motorcycles of late. Only in its third year of existence, Mahinda 2 Wheelers featured a pair of new mounts at the 2012 Delhi Auto Expo – its MGP30 Moto3 racer and the Mojo concept.
Mahindra follows its inaugural 125GP entry with the MGP30, which will be campaigned next year in the new Moto3 class.
Mahindra will campaign the inaugural Moto3 championship with its new MGP30. Conforming to series specs, the new mount will run a 250cc four-stroke Single. It runs in a tubular steel frame chassis with aluminum swingarm. Racing kit includes Arrow exhaust and Nissin braking components. Total weight is listed at 83 Kg (183 pounds).
The new ride continues the Indian marque’s collaboration with Engines Engineering, who developed the company’s inaugural 125GP racebike riders Marcel Schrotter and Danny Webb campaigned in the final 125GP championship. Competing against the dominating Aprilia competition, the Mahindra duo scored three top-ten finishes – its best showing a ninth-place result from Schrotter at Assen.
The Mojo doubles Mahindra's motorcycle lineup, the three-year-old Mahindra 2 Wheelers expanding in its domestic Indian market initially with a successful scooter lineup.
Mahindra also showcased its latest scooter models, as well as the new Mojo at the 2012 Auto Show. Like the MGP30, the Mojo represents another collaboration with Engines Engineering, reflecting some Euro-ish styling. Powered by a fuel-injected 300cc engine, it will make a claimed 26 horsepower. Mahindra also claims is will be the first Indian motorcycle to make use of tubeless radial Pirelli tires.
Mahindra first announced the Mojo in September of 2010 and is only the second production motorcycle (non-scooter) to be built by the firm. Expect the production version to hit in 2012.
